| Suffolk Waterpark 4-5/04/07 i returned home from work early and decided to give suffolk water parks 25 acre big fish lake a try for the night with the intention of spending the morning at another lake on the complex if no fish was caught overnight. being quite a regular at the complex, i knew it was home to some very big carp to 40lb and pike to over 30lb, but i did not it had many tench in it and how wrong i was. however, because this lake is considered to be a very hard water, i decided to use a maggot feeder on one rod with a hair rig to see if anything would bite. on my other rod, i used a single 20mm boilie with a PVA bag with the hope of a monster carp. within 30mins of casting out my rods i was into a fish after a screaming run. after a few minutes i slid the net under a tench of about 5lb. i had another tench an hour or so later also weighing in at just over 5lb before recasting my rods for a final time before getting some much needed sleep. after just a single drop back all night, i woke at 5.30am to yet another drop back. this was my signal to get up and recast and rebait. within minutes i was into another tench and then all hell struck! my chunky 4 1/2lb tench was taken by a monster pike! i held on for a long time and it splashed on top and even came right to the bank. there was no doubting this fish was over 20lb and probably not far off 30lb. in the end it did let go and i quickly returned my tench to the water. coming up to 8oclock my rod with the 20mm boilie screamed off and i thought big carp on when i hooked it, but it turned out to be a 7lb tench! this was the last 'screamer' i actually had. and the only fish i did catch all session on this rod! after a few words with the bailiff he allowed me to use one of his keepnets which i was very pleased about because the use of these on the complex is strictly banned unless in matches. i fished on for another for hours up until 12oclock and on my maggot feeder rod i caught another 12 tench! two of them weighed in at 7lb 3oz and the bag weighed a whopping 67lb! not bad for 4hrs of fishing from one rod on a lake that is considered to be very hard! as far as i know it is one of the biggest hauls of tench from the lake in a long while as well! the smallest tench of the 12 was 4lb 12oz and they averaged about 5 1/2lb! WHAT A DAYS FISHING AND I AM PROBABLY GOING TO BE BACK THERE IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS p.s. i do have a couple of pictures but am unsure how to post them on here becuase they are from my pc and not the internet. (help please ) |
