Whitevane Pond: 26th/27th March 07

Hi all

Just thought I'd post a report about the 24 hour session I've just finished at Whitevane Pond in West Sussex:

http://www.fisheries.co.uk/whitevane/index.htm.

Its a prolific carp water and Tulip the common carp which was caught last year at 46lbs 12oz!

The lake has its own clubhouse with facilities such as toilets, washing facilities and a kitchen with microwave, sink etc. These are open all night. It's a very secure site, with the gates locked at 8pm. Adam, the baliff, will also transport you to your swim by golf cart! Cool. Anyway, after a brief chat, I decided to fish peg 35 on the infamous 'Spooks Corner'. He asked if I was afraid of the 'ghost' there, but I don't believe in that sort of mumbo-jumbo so off we went. (Its in the corner):

The 24 hour ticket cost £25, which is a bargain as it isn't timed, so if you get there early on day one, you can fish for almost two solid days. After an hours faffing about, I was ready to start fishing:

Well I marked up, spodded what I needed to my chosen spot and settled in for the evening. Apart from a few bleeps, there was little action. I reeled the rods in at midnight and decided to get some sleep. I'd start early in the morning instead with a clear head.

When I awoke at 6am, it was misty and flippin' cold:

I put the stove on and made a brew and had some breakfast (don't ask!):

A couple of hours later, it was turning out to be a nice day, getting warmer by the hour:

I even had a visitor now and again:

I also found out my phone takes excellent close-up photos:

Unfortunately, there was little sign of me bagging a carp today, the recent cold spell had obviously switched them off. I tried a few different tactics but to no avail. I scanned the lake and found little evidence of any carp activity. Very few anglers on the lake had caught anything, so at least I wasn't alone. Still, a fab venue with good facilities and definitely one I will be visting very soon. On the plus side I got to practice a lot with the marker float and spod, which is a good thing

Cheers
Rob

Nice report, shame about the lack of fish, I think everywhere is suffering with this cold wind sending them all into hiding.

Looks a cracking venue, might have to have a stroll up that way this spring when I get a free weekend.

Great report/pics......shame about the lack of fish....as been said before....the weather made it hard for every angler........mmmh golf cart, now that's a good idea, wouldn't mind to give the lake a try for a weekend...at least I don't have to barrow ALL my gear to my swim

Thumbs up Re: Whitevane Pond: 26th/27th March 07

Great report & pics Rob. Pity the Carp did'nt show though. Definately could have done with a golf cart at Linear last weekend. I was knackered by the time I got to my peg.

Seriously, it went up in about a minute! Took about 5 minutes to pack away. Did what it says on the tin basically

Ah yes. Breakfast in a can. Pull ring tab, heat and chow down. It's the breakfast of champions mate. Well, champions that can't be arsed to do any cooking with actual ingredients anyway!

Great report Rob, love the photos. It's a shame the carp didn't want to play, but I guess you still enjoyed yourself eh?
