top banana,s at linear

well i would like to say i,m glad to be home but i for one really enjoyed my time at the linear meet that i could have easerly stayed but sadly i had to leave .
so just to refresh any one who has been out of the galaxy who was going to be there greenheart (Ian ) ,baitmaster ( Kevin ), warmits63( Steve) norfolk boy (Dan) twiddler ( Claudia ) mithrandir( mike)

so to the report me a Dan were first to arrive at the linear complex early Thursday morning and headed to oxlease where we were going to fish but to our horror it was extremely full and we had to make a quick change and we soon had informed the rest of the groupe that we would now be heading for brasenose 1 .
me a Dan decided that we needed the exercise and borrowed round the long way through the mud and water then realised it would have been far quicker to have drove down the track parked at the far end of the fishery and barrow on the new shingle path that was being laid embarrassed .
we were soon met by mike and in the spirit of the forum helped to get all his gear round to the swims that we had picked out earlier so we could all fish together .
we were soon all set up and settle down to the first night we were a bit concerned that the weather was going to make the fishing very hard and the first evening was very quiet indeed but at around midnight mike got the ,meet off to a good start with a new pb of 14.8 mirror (well done mike )
we took a couple of pics and the fish was safely released and we hoped this was how we were going to continue .

we turn in for the night and all were up early and with the kettle straight on first thing i carefully watched the water and hoped the weather would warm up to give us all the chance of catching some nice carp while i was watching the water i noticed my tip dip down gently but did not lift my bobbin i watched it carefully and again it dipped so i sat behind the rod and it then gentle started to dip so i picked up the rod and leaned into the fish and started to play it in Dan and mike soon arrived to assist and we soon had the fish netted and on the unhooking mat a few pics again was taken and a weight of 18lb 8oz was recorded before it was released

this lifted our spirit and there was a air of confidence that we were going to catch a few but as the morning passed the fish certainly had other ideas
the next to arrive was Steve and after introducing ourselves we all helped to get all his the gear round .
soon he was fishing and it seemed that he was only out for a minute before he was into his first fish and its really scrapped well and gave him a good work out but it was soon banked and at first he thought it was going ot be a new pb but it just missed out and the scales read 12lb 8oz well done (Steve )

next to arrive was Claudia and again the spirit of team work was up held and she was soon getting her tackle sorted in the fox hotel that took minutes to put up

soon after this Ian arrived and once again we all helped to get him sorted and get him settle into the swim that he was going to be sharing with Dan
as you can see Ian was making sure who was going to be in charge on the double peg .

we were soon all set and gather for a social at hotel tiddles for a beer or two and we were treated to a fantastic sunset

the evening seem to fly by and i,m not sure what the rest of the lake thought as we jollied it up with a brew or to again the rods were quiet and so was the night and nothing happened and on Saturday we again woke up to another very chilly day with a bitterly cold north easterly which again was going to make the fishing very hard .spirits were high but nothing seem to work that we tried .
but just after dinner me a Dan shot off to the local tackle shop after talking to one of the local lads who had got the fish going on a spot and was the only one on the lake to be consistently banking fish so i was soon over there trying ot gleen some valuable info that might help us , so i bought a few goodies (pop ups) that i felt might help our cause on the basis of what the lad had told me .
when i got back i scaled my rigs down to match the smaller baits i had purchased and done the same for others too .
again the rest of the afternoon was quiet and we decided to do tea and hoped the evening would improve and shortly after tea i was greeted with a steady take at very long range it was soon banked and weighed 16lb 4oz this fish seem to lift every one a bit before it was put back i had a quick chat to it to go a speak to its brothers in the hope it would bring them to us (well when things get desperate )

we again gathered for the social and were enjoying yet another fantastic evening and finally Claudia jhas some action but sadly it dropped the baits i recast it for here and we sat back down at around 9ish i think she got anther bit of interest which again denied her the pleasure of a fish .
we all retire to our bivvies and as i sell into my bivvy staring out at the water with a coffee before i was to retired to my sleeping bag
i wished that Ian, Dan and Claudia would have fish during the night as i felt gutted as i had worked hard showing them rigs, tactics , and been suggesting area,s and casting for them too.
i must have dropped of for a minute and i was awoken by a indicators i got up and could see it was Claudia i went over to see what was happening as i arrived she was into a fish and i leant a hand while she put her shoes on .
now this fish was going to make Claudia earn it and done every thing possible to escape capture and it kited to the right and manage to interfere with mike rods which ment he had to reel in and get him in a tangle .
claudia carried on playing it and i was getting her to play the fish on the back wind not off the clutch which at first she found difficult but soon had the hang of it slowly but surely she got it closer and i was ready with the net i waited my moment as she was on light lines and a small barbless hook the last thing i wanted to do was stab at it and knock it off the hook .
it llooked ready and i slowly moved the net under the fish and lifted it to my horror it was not in the net and it became and tried to make its escape i was relieved to get it on the second attempt .
to say claudia was happy was and understatememt as she shouted out OI! OI!as she realised she had broken her pb and had her first double craddling in her hands and at
19lb 12oz what a impressive double

well done claudia (TOP ANGLING GAL )
we retired and in the morning we were all up early and every one congratulated claudia on her fish breakfast was done and we all packed down and again every one helped every one else with there gear and headed for the car park to head off
i have to say regardless the fishing was slow pb,s had been broken and the forum social was fantastic and i for one thoroughly enjoyed it and hope another one is held soon but until then tightlines .

tightlines

Re: top banana,s at linear

super cracking report Kev.....not much to add except that Kev and Dan were absolutely great, I don't think he ever managed to get so many bivvys up in such a short time. A big thank you for all your help, tuition and the bait and rig supply.

I learnt a great deal during this weekend thanks to Kev's tips and guidance....I certainly would have not managed to get my PB without his help.

It was great to finally have met you and Dan and I'm looking forward to fish with you again real soon. OI OI!!!

How on earth you learnt to cast that far is beyond me

Re: top banana,s at linear

Was an absolutely fantastic meet, I enjoyed every second.

Well done to all who caught, it was a very hard session and the weather did not help at all!

A special mention must go to Warmit63 (Steve) who was an absolute top sport, he received a bit of stick about bananas but took it on the chin and got his own back on a few

A few pictures:

Where's Kev?

Just have to say for anyone fishing with Steve, take extra special care when feeding. Luckily for us he was in his cage and even then we had to use the bait attatched to line on a rod and reel, just to be safe!

MINE!
