Any Swingers?

The weather having been great all week, Twiddler (Claudia), Mithrandir (Mike), Warmit (Steve) & myself had been looking forward to having a session at Todber in Dorset. Typically however the weather on Saturday turned much colder & was not ideal for our planned meet. Things warmed up however when Steve & I met Claudia & Mike at the site shop & started checking out the tackle. Claudia shouted to the proprietor across a crowded shop to ask if he had any swingers in the shop. Every hot blooded male in the shop was instantly looking in her direction. For those of you who have led sheltered lives, Swingers are a type of bite indicator generally used for Carp fishing. (Well what other sort of swinger would I have been talking about on a fishing forum?) Anyway, once the excitement was over we set off to a fairly crowded Wadmill lake & chose our swims. Everyone had new tackle & rigs that they wanted to try out for our planned trip to Linear fisheries in Oxfordshire next weekend.
Weather conditions were a mixture of sunshine & cloud, combined with a strong cold wind. Baits, included Boilies, sweetcorn, paste & salami & various cocktails of the above.
The fishing was slow but steady, with all of us catching a few fish throughout the day (Some more than others) but generally enjoying a relaxed & chilled out day. (Again, some more than others...)

Species caught included Tench, Bream & Carp.

However I do have to admit that we were comprehensively outfished by a certain member of our little party.

This was all too much for Steve who was last seen legging it around the lake, clutching a Bananna & muttering something about female Pheromones giving her an unfair advantage......

All in all a very good if cold day. And of course it was nicely rounded off with some well deserved beer down the pub.....

It turned out to be a good day, despite the windy conditions, we all caught, tested the new gear for Linear and it was great to meet up with Ian and steve again......looking forward to see you at Linear again guys.

Claudia has borrowed some rods and reels, Steve had new rods and bite alarms, and Ian had some new kit,

I was using the day to try out different rigs. Really we all had a good excuse to go fishing, as if we

needed one !!

The fishing was slow for everone on the lake but Claudia started the account with a 2 lb tench caught on

a 10 mm tutti frutti boilie covered in halibut paste.

My second fish was one of the pesky bream that outwitted me last week, this one fell to a 14mm scopex

boilie!

The day was a strange one in that all of us, and the other anglers we spoke to, suffered from very fast

takes on the bait with the line screaming off only to have it dropped as we struck. I had one where I

let it run, used my finger on the line to strike, felt the fish tighten and stop, then felt the line go

slack on my finger, reeling in to an empty line.

Both Claudia and I had fish break off the hooklink, mine was running very hard and deep, had taken line

on the clutch but gave one mighty kick and snapped the 6lb fluorcarbon hook link, felt like a goodun

too!!

Finally we packed up as the sun was setting, final scores were

Steve had 4 Carp

Ian had 4 Carp

I had 3 carp and a bream

Claudia out fished us all and had 6 carp and a tench, with this as her largest fish of the day

We retired to the pub and had a couple of beers before we set off home.

A nice day out, when can we dream up another excuse to do it?
