Wadmill lake Todber manor Mike and I decided to fishWadmill Lake at Todber Manor on sunday as Mike couldn't fish the Hampshire Avon on saturday due to river had been flooded and the banks were burst to an extend that even the path way was flooded. We arrived at Todber just before 8am, bought our day ticket (which should have been £8 by now but still got changed £6, bargain) and I could not resist to purchase myself 2 Fox warrior bite alarms. Soon we were set up ready to try some new baits and rigs out, I decided to put one rod out with a 8lb mainline, 5lb hook length, a 12" hair rig on a inline semi bolt rig, bait was a 10mm halibut boilie and PVA mesh, filled with feeder pellets and crashed mixed boilies. The other rod was also set up with 8lb mainline and 5 lb hook lengh, set up with a 2oz cage feeder and 14" hook, bait was rainbow mix maggots. Mike had the first run at 11.30am, a little mirror of 4lb ![]() Mike had a few more catches but I will let him give you the details. My first catch of the day around midday was a wee bream, which I didn't even weight ![]() Followed by a 2lb bream, which both were caught on maggots ![]() Followed by a 1lb tench ![]() Next in line was a little mirror carp of 4lb10oz, caught on boilie ![]() The afternoon arrived (3pm) and things went quiet, so I decided to make a few more PVA mesh bags up when suddenly I heard one of my baitrunner screaming, the rod almost dropping of the rod pod....the line been pulled of the reel in a speed I have never seen before, I grabbed the rod, stricked and started to reel in. HANG ON I thought, no resistence anymore....darn!!!! Whatever fish it was, it snapped my line like it was cotton. I was gutted!!!!! Around 1hr later the same......darn that fish, it lost me my second rig, (not to mention the one I lost by overcasting and hitting the Island in the middle of the lake *blush*)........Again I was gutted as I was hoping to get my first double....mmmmh hand grenade dynamit sticks, sledge hammer, machine gun etc sprang into my mind at that second, so I decided to change my hook length to 7lb. Things went quiet again, so I tried a new tactic, I covered the boilie in halibut paste and funny as it seemed, it worked a treat Here are my next 2 catches, mirror carp, one of 7lb and one of 8lb ![]() ![]() Not the double I was hoping for but it's a start......... Next time I will get the bu**er carp and demand my rigs back!!!! __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving

Re: Wadmill lake Todber manor It was a good day out for us both, I had about 25 lb of smallish carp, with a couple of 7lbs in the bag, all mirrors, all caught on boilies, seemed to be the bait of the day, unlike a month ago where maggots were the catching bait. my biggest frustration of the day came in the last hour and a half when i decided to try out the maggot clips I had bought recently. The day had been a tackle try out day for me, I was experimenting with D rigs and line aligners and had a good success rate and was impressed by how well the d rig and line aligner struck the hook almost perfectly every time. at about 5 pm, with an hour left and it going quiet I decided to drop a maggot clip on a D rig into the baited margin we had been feeding all day. very quickly I had a knocking on the rod tip, a classic bream take, so i lifted the rod and felt a large bream on it, not 15 foot of line between me and it, but 8 feet of bank and all my kit between me and my net!! needless to say as I managed to wangle my way to the net, get it in the water, the bream was visible on the surface, all of a 4 to 5 pounder, it looked me in the eye and spat the hook! much Anglo saxon ensued. well undeterred I rebaited and tried again, 20 minutes later it happened again, a large bream, too close and a spat hook as it saw the net. third time the line went about 5 minute later the hook was out before I saw the fish. so in 30 minutes I had lost 3 good fish. I think maybe I need some advice on how to rig a maggot clip to a hook and make it strike correctly, the d rig works for carp on boilies but is not so good for maggot clips and bream. Oh Well a lesson learnt!!!! still a good day, just a frustrating end, I wish I had had a couple more hours of light to muck about with rigs, but next time!

Re: Wadmill lake Todber manor Thanks Paul.....now Mike and I are debating here at the moment....the first 'bream' I caught...well, we took a closer look and aren't so sure if it was a bream, the scales are different....here a better pic ![]() Some help to clear the species would be welcome __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving

Re: Wadmill lake Todber manor Well done to the both of you, that fish is certainly not a bream. Looks more like a Crucian, possibly a hybrid. __________________ Dan `·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸ Big or small, look after them all! ¸.·´¯`·.¸ ><((((º>
