| 2 Nights slab hunting Well on arrival on thursday at noon the wind was howling down the mere. It usually takes about 10 mins but this time it took me more like 20 mins to row to my stage. This is a view of the stage on a calmer day .Well i finaly got to the stage and by time the bivvy was up and everything in place the wind did start to die down a bit but still quite rough as you can see from this pic .By 5pm all 3 rods in baited with the usual 2 rods on p/apple pop ups and 1 on rubber corn and the wind had dropped a bit more .Nothing happened the first night not a single bleep the only thing that happened was by 6 am my bivvy was covered inside and out with frost, i made the mistake of having my stove inside while boiling the kettle so soon it was like it was raining inside my bivvy as the frost thawed from the heat of my stove. Any way thats the first night over, after nipping home for some dinner i made the journey back with the weather prospects looking a bit better wind and rain and a touch milder were forcast, well at least it should keep the frost away. This is the view while halfway back to the stage yesterday you can just make out my bivvy in the distance. The rods were again baited with the usual baits and back out for 5pm all ready for the nights action,it was a bit breezy but not too bad but at about 9pm it did start to rain quite heavy so i was confined to the sleeping bag and there i stayed for most of the night ,then at 03:15 am there i was listening to the rain pounding my bivvy thinking i hope i dont get a run now and the inevitable happened one of my delkims was bleeping away ,quickly throwing on my shoes and coat i lifted the rod to feel the familiar nodding of a Bream slowly making its way to my net, there it was in my headtorch sliding over the net cord,i could see it was a good fish,on the scales it went 12 lb 2 oz and was a female, she was quickly in the queenford retainer ready for a photo. .Well i was well pleased again with the session and now i,m looking forward to next weekend even though it is the last weekend of the season in my quest for them big Bream. robm |
