Thumbs up Branscombe/MSC Napoli Update

well as was a lovely day took missus ping and kids for a walk down to beach at Branscombe to see how bad damage still is after 3 weeks

read some info on notice board that over last week all the heavy oil is off and they are now pumping the last of the 500tonnes light oil out, also boat is stable but still listing at 13degrees high tide and 15 degrees low tide
320 containers are now off but barges are away for next few days due to swell and wind
some containers on ship getting damaged but work going well

then walked down(as beach road closed to cars)
the first sight was quite shocking with huge piles of shingle ,debris and heavy machinery

but after this initial shock you realise how much work has been done

heres the view to east now

if you compare that to the picture baggie put up on first thread its amazing whats been done in 3 weeks

and to the west(can see the ship in distance

did find some debris

these were the 2 worst images from the compounf
1 a life raft
2 some of the stuff that drew 100's to this beach , all for a few packs of nappies

but too be honest i was so impressed with the work that has been done

I dont know how much longer will be shut but it actually looked promissing
that may be open for the smoothound season

tried to be clever and take 2 short videos on camera as well
hope this works ,
1st is east to west

2nd is west to east

as you can see there was a fantastic surf running today as wel

also found this site for up to date info

hope this helps

Re: Branscombe/MSC Napoli Update

Fantastic report Dave. Thanks for taking the time to check it out mate.

Looks like they've done a great job, but like you say I've heard problems with the weather this weekend. as well. Something about a container of pellets? Not sure what kind of pellets, but there's some nasty cargo still on the ship isn't there?

One question. Where abouts was this shot taken from in relation to the car park???

Re: Branscombe/MSC Napoli Update

Hi guys, I'm down there tomorrow working. I've seen a recent inventory of whats still on board, and there are still quite a few containers on there that you wouldn't want breaking up, although obviously I can't say any more than that. (You never know who's reading!)

That picture Baggie is from just in front and to the west of the car park, unless Dave can correct me.

Great report Dave, and you are right, the work that has gone into this has been great so far. I just hope mother nature lends a hand now and gives a period of calm weather......looking doubtful though.

Regards, Darren
