| Re: New to this firstly welcome to the mad house dont know your area but sure someone wil help with marks soon there are loads of threads re starting on here, most good tackle shops will sell you a start up kit all i would sayis get as good a gear as you can afford because if you get hooked you wont want to upgrade quite so quickly good luck dave __________________ www.exmouthsaa.co.uk 24 beers in a case and 24 hours in a day simples You won't know unless you go :D...and if you do go!! please let us know :D as thats how the forum thrives |

| Re: New to this Hi Maurice, Welcome to the Forum, I'm sure that when the lads come on you will get all the help you need. I'm a charter boat fisherman and unfortunately can't give you all the help that you require for beachcasting. Looking forward to your postings. | Re: New to this Hi Maurice, Welcome to the forum. I've only been sea fishing myself for just over a year now, but the best thing I ever did was join this forum. I've had more pointers and tips from the guys on here than I could ever have gained from magazines\TV\books. This is one of the best fishing resources I've come across and it's totaly free. Reading the advice and info on here is worth it's weight in gold. When I started, I was bought a £30 rod/reel combo from my local tackle shop. It was a 10ft rod casting 4-6 oz. I think it was a Shakespear rod and a Shakespear Mustang reel. Hasn't really let me down at all, although the reel did "flex" a little when I hooked a good fish. At least I *think* it was a good fish! Also to start you'll need some warm, water proof clothing. It gets COLD when you're stood on the beach in winter. Make sure your head and feet are warm. Next most imprtant thing is a head torch. I picked mine up for £10 when I started and it's still going strong. Okay it's not the most powerful torch in the world, but it's enough to bait up with and I don't need to see what's going on half a mile down the beach to be honest. Other than that, a tripod is useful, although I started with a sand spike. Then there's little things like a decent knife, terminal tackle like hooks\line\swivels and weights. I think if I was starting again, I'd buy the waterproofs/floatation suit as a priority. It's no fun if you're cold and wet. Other than that, spend what you can get away with and if you don't like it you haven't lost too much. Enjoy, __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. Check. Reels. Check. Speckled Hen. Check. Bait…… BAIT! Sh*t, where’s the bait? |

| Re: New to this no probs mate,i am now a coarse angler but have done loads of sea fihing in the past,i don't know what gear is on the market these days but i can certainly advise you on where to go. this time of year can be good locally for you, gillingham pier and down the coast at herne bay can be very good whiting venues, the best by far in my opinion is dover and deal piers, they offer deep water close in and the fishing can be very good. excellent places to learn your trade. best of luck wherever you go maurice |
