Exclamation Help Needed

well,me and dad went down the local tackle shop and looked for some rods. we then bumped into someone who reccommened the ron thompson axellerator.
on closer inspection, there were a few marks on the butt section which could have been signs of it being dropped...but then when we put it together and put a bend in it, the ferrell started to creak and groan.
the shop owner insisted it was because it was new, but me and dad were wise up to this, because it looked very much second hand. the question is: what could be wrong with it and if we spent the money...could the creaking and groaning be a bad sign? i dont want to buy something that could break at any moment.
advice would be very helpful and welcome here... thanks!

I'm gonna put in a word of defence for Ron Thomson stuff. RT stuff is very cheap, but very good value for what you pay. It's ideally suited for the beginner or casual holiday angler who has'nt decided whether sea fishing is for him / her & some of it gets quite reasonable write ups in the angling press. A novice friend of mine bought a RT carbon beachcaster about three years back & it's served him well. He's also caught a lot of fish using it. I think it's a matter of horses for courses.

Re: Help Needed

I have no idea on RT stuff as I've never had any, but I have heard that the axellerator is a one of the better rough ground rods in it's price range.

Rich.
