Smile International Sea Angling Cup

Mustad Waves the Flag at the Faroe islands

Largest catch -- largest fish -- best team and best woman. Mustad's successful team is leading the deep- sea-fishing contest at the the Faroe islands. We will follow the team daily from the 18 basalt islands between Norway and Iceland

Smyril Line International Sea Angling Cup is one of the largest deep sea angling competitions this year, with prizes that can substantiate that statement: a prize of 10.000 Euro will be awarded to the one that lands the largest total catch and a further 10.000 Euro for the one that catches the largest fish in the waters around Runavik, the third largest city on the the Faroe islands.

The dramatic Faroe landscape and waters teaming with fish form the setting of this great deep sea fishing festival, The Smyril Line International Sea Angling Cup, in which Mustad's successful Deep Sea Fishing Team
is in the lead in all categories.
This great event has contestants from Norway, Denmark, Holland, Germany, England and Scotland. In today's competition, Mustad's competent team members are on a roll, and currently they are at the very top in all categories they take part in. Geir Sivertzen (a.k.n.as Dr. Hook) is quite superior in the competition for the largest total catch, with 290 points after the first day of fishing. Tomorrow he will compete with Roy Robertson from England, who holds the second place with 236 points.
There's a firece competition for the largest fish around Runavik these days. Participants from Denmark, Norway, England and Holland are out on the sea to catch loads of fish in order to win the great prizes.

In the competition for the largest fish another Mustad Team member, Tore Gismevik, is leading with a 7.5 kg Ling, and in the class for women Torunn Handeland, Mustad's very competent female fishing expert, is on top with 193 points, followed by Benedikte Havemann from Denmark with 157 points.

Geir Sivertzen and Tore Gismevik from the Mustad Team are photographed on the pier with their prizes on the first day of the competition, for the biggest total catch and the largest fish, respectively. Torunn Handeland

Team Mustad Norway also participates as a team and thanks to their intensive preparations and some days of test fishing before the competition started, they are at the moment on top of the list with 878 points, competing against a BRITISH TEAM who has 800 points so far.

- We have really swept away the competion on the first day, but it doesn't pay to be arrogant and smug in such a game. We will keep on doing our best, says the team leader Geir Sivertzen. Cod, pollack, haddock and cusk are quite abundant in these waters, but we hope to catch halibut and other goodies from the sea as well.

The whole team are doing their best – and we will try to keep up the steam with new tactical efforts, which will hopefully result in some really big fish and a large number of fish tomorrow, concludes a happy team leader from the pier in Runavik. We will come back with more news tomorrow.

The Smyril Line International Sea Angling Cup is held for the first time this year, but the organizers intend to make an annual event, which will find its place among the largest and most prestigious deep sea angling festivals in the Nordic Countries
