Live sandeel

Yesterday, Emma & I bought THIS from ebay.



The next step is to fill it with sand from Devon and seawater from Burton Bradstock, no mean feat considering it will have to be collected in buckets and we live on the top floor of a converted warehouse.



When everything has settled down, we're off back to Devon to use our seine net to catch sandeel. Hopefully we'll be able to supply in the future because I can't find a source this side of Plymouth.

just a few inches at the bottom id of thought would do it!

wonderful idea,how long do sandeels stay alive in a tank like that ?
could you keep lugworm in the sand on the bottom ?

you could try too keep hermits if the sand eels fail

Got a beer chiller (cheaper than aquarium chillers) and will need some protein skimmers. I reckon that providing I keep an eye on them and remove any dead eels ASAP, then I should be able to avoid the tank turning rancid.

you dont want sand you want the shingle type minute pebbles that you get on slapton sands... but bewarned im fairly sure it is illegal to take sand from a beach home...so this may have to be a night time project

providing its sea water running through and the pumps are going 24 hours a day then it should work fine.. i used to keep them here but in a small 2 bedroom flat my parents got fedup with the idea and i had to give my stuff away
