Re: sole fishing

in my experience around our coast simon they tend to fall to small hooks and small baits,i have had some nice soles over the years especially at dengemarsh,
i usually prefer to fish with ragworm on a size 2 hook, that usually sorts them out for me.

Re: sole fishing

I'll second that fella, never had one ( not for lack of trying!! ) but fished dengemarsh a lot, my fav mark in Kent. Theres an interesting article in TSF Nov 2004 edition about soleing at Hythe with a local expert that might point you in the right direction if you can get hold of it.

Re: sole fishing

Yeah simon if you are after sole the use small thin wire hooks and bait up with lug/rag. You can try putting a small strip of squid with them, make them quite long and only hook the end so that it flaps in the tide hopefully attracting the nearby fish. I do a lot of sole fishing at the warren with baitcaster and can reccomend using a long flowing wishbone rig which we have had good results with, put a few bright beads and attractors on it and you should get somewhere! I also have found that they are not at any great distance so try and aim your cast for the gutter ( the place where the pebbles give way to the sand ). You also tend to find a lot off school bass in this area as well!

Good luck and let us know how you get on mate

Joe

Re: sole fishing

Yeah me and baitcaster had a small one last week so they are deffinatly out there. I wouldn`t worry about the black wall though as they are all over the beach down there, the biggest one we have had was caught on the sand beach near the rocks! Just a bit of a pain trying to run up the beach with the gear as the tide comes across the flat sand bloody quick!!. Take a look on the apron b4 the tide gets in and try and find a reasonably clean spot so ya dont lose all ya gear!

Have a good un!

Re: sole fishing

3 or 2 hooks flapping, usually short range, size 4 ish hooks, worm baits (sometimes really rotten worms will out fish fresh).

another place worth trying is walmer beach (nr deal), there are paches of mud just past the low water mark. find them and you'll find the sole.
