Braid

Excuse me if this has been covered before,
but braid, ive been looking at braid for a few months now ,
and actually fished with someone today who uses braid,
it seems great, but im just worried about nesting it on my multi ?
As its so expensive i cant afford to keep relining my reel,
Is it easier to untangle than nylon ?.
I can get a 40 lb braid thinner than a 18lb nylon,
can anyone tell me the true benefits please,
cheers lee .

Well the fact its so thin -- For sea fishing off a boat you can use smaller lead to hold bottom. As the braid cuts through the tide.

It has almost zero stretch -- therefore the bite detection is tops for both sea and fresh.

I would not use it for lumping out 5oz lead as thats just not going to work. But spinner work even uptiding ( as I saw in action ) its tops.

Also if using off a boat its always a bit of a tip to lay off the line on the way back in.This sound a bit of a pain but the difference is worth it.

NO mate as it so thin

Good round 30lb breaking strain braid is almost the same thickness as some 6lb mono line

How much does your bait cost a trip ? £10.00 work out how long a spool of braid will last and I think you will find its good value plus there are some great deals about.

Almost all people who use braid will never go back , but some times you need to use mono.

You just have to remember its a fabric thus different rules apply.

If your mate fishes with it ask to borrow the reel for a day and have a play.

Re: Braid

Thanks richard,
i think thats answered all my questions,
its just he had a multi beachcasting with braid and it didnt look right ,
but he had a really smooth cast,
i think ill just get braid for my fixed spool then,
cheers lee.
p.s i did ask for a cast on his reel and he politely said f off.!!!!

Talking Re: Braid

Well it means ----

If your line gets very tightly layed on ( playing big fish or using heavy lead )

So a little thing I do now and then is put a boom on the end and let line out from the back of the boat ( whilst steaming back in ).

Then reel it all back in .

This means you have your line under some pressure but not tightly bound in ( its good to do this if your not going out for a few months )

Its a good little tip that I picked up from some of the guys from the forum

Re: Braid

I've had a play with braid whilst spinning a couple of times now, most recently with Ping on Saturday night.

Both times I've had nasty wind knots and spent good fishing time sitting on the beach un-picking which is quite annoying.

I've gotta say that my casting style probably doesn't lend itself very well to the smooth cast which is required and I always forget to check the line lay before hurling the spinner out again, so I've only got myself to blame really.

I have read somewhere (probably the Mike Ladle site) that you should always check for loops on your spool before casting and that you should flick the bail arm over manually each time you cast (As opposed to just turning the handle to flick the bail arm over) but I've never really figured out why......

Oh yeah, massive appologies to Pingu for putting a huge knot in his braid on Saturday, which was probably the cause of him losing a nice surface popper next cast. Sorry mate, I'll make it up to ya in the pub.

Rich.

Re: Braid

So am i right in thinking,

but not so for beachingcasting multis,

Re: Braid

That's the way I understand it. Braid is best used on the boat and for spinning with a FS reel. Like I say though, I don't use it and I stand to be corrected.

FF admin is the best person to answer really.

Rich

Re: Braid

i used to use it on a FS reel for beach casting and it made bite detection and current easy, dont forget the shockleader
i still use it on spinning and float gear, to avoid wind knots make sure the line is tight and dont over load the reel

Re: Braid

think the main reason on saturday rich was it was new line spooled up to the lip , will settle down, but gave us good casting practice trying to catch a lost lure

love it otherwise for spinning/wrassing
