uptide reel?

Can anybody recommend a reel for uptiding. I use my mag 525 at the moment but want something a little heavier. I am thinking of getting either a sl30sh or an abu bg7000 leverdrag but cant decide what one?

Re: uptide reel?

Main thing I looked for and was told when choosing an uptide reel was a line layer and to remember you are only casting 40 odd yards.

Well I use the Abu Ambassaduer BG7000HS which is a nice size but cannot seem to set the star drag full on to never give line ( which is a good safty thing )

I also use ABU 7500 C3 which is a bit big but robust

Good things with them is the line layer and they are light , but retreval is low which I notice when reeling in the bow of your line to make contact with the fish

I only wish the penn mag had a line layer and with its high return would make it tops

Sure lots of other views will follow

Re: uptide reel?

We use 7000 HSN and 7500 c3 all the time on the boat, both have high retrieve speeds, essential when uptiding.Have used a 7000c4 lever drag ,they are ok ,but only 4.0:1 retrive, and all the messing around with the drag lever to cast is just a pain to be honest......
