Us commercial lads have to have a shellfish entitlement on our licence to pot but i don't think there worried about joe bloggs whos got a couple of pots!! what really angers me up our way is joe bloggs whos got 40 pots and sells them to restaurants . There really hot on having your noddys marked round our way and if you don't they'll tow away your gear .

i have recently purchased 2 collapsable pots and was wanting advice on how to use them? how i weight them? float them?ropes?bate them?soak them? will they float away? how deep should they be set? cheers!

Michael, the article linked from Flounder Al's post above is excellent. As for weighting, you may find the collapsible type pots are not really strong enough to be used at anything over say 10 feet with the weights that would entail. They are perfect for Signal crayfish in freshawater though. Ours have a little pocket into which we put a bit of tinned dog food

i just read it!fantastic info. i just wanted to try them as an experement as i got them for a fiver on ebay!might just bate them and sink them with a buoy. see what i get. can you get crayfish in northern ireland?
