best thing i did was join a club

well this year i joined the local sea angling club (ESAA)
I think its the best thing i have done in years
not only have i met other people to go out fishing with. but the amount of information and knowledge (tactics & local area knowledge especially)i have gained in only 6 months has been incredible.

from this i now have had lots of PB's and firsts
the matches are just light hearted get togethers and the best place for "networking" (si will love that)

so if you were wondering wether to join a local club or not , I would say wholeheartedly yes ,

Clubs can be great for the social side of things & learning from others, but I have definate reservations about Volunteering for club committees. Been roped in to several posts in coarse fishing clubs & everyones dead keen until theres any work to be done. I have always found that small informal clubs or groups with no club officers work best. Also was a member of a match team in a large club . It was great until we started winning all the local leagues, then people started trying to buy a team place with offers of sponsorship & stuff & things turned sour. Sorry to sound so negative, but i've had some bad experiences. Like I said small informal clubs are my preference. Sounds like your club are a good crowd though Dave.

did a job for an old boy the other week,
member of a boat fishing club out of shorham real good old boys club
they have 3 boats, you just chip in for petrol and bait which he says works out at about a fiver a trip!!! little club house the lot.
aparently ther is long waiting list, but i gave him some of the jeffy magic
and he is gana try and fast track me!!
30 quid a year cant be bad.
