Re: beach shelters

Hi Lee

I've got the Ron Thomson shelter (or the John Thomas as it was named by Fishypaul ) and it's always done the job for me. When you see a John Holden Beach Buddy (which the RT blatantly copies) you realise how much better it's made...but it's £70 more expensive. That said, the RT has never let me down, even in F8's and driving rain on Dungeness beach! For the price you won't get better

Rob

Re: beach shelters

the beach buddy has been around for years, and you really can't get any better. i've had mine 7 years now and have only got a very small hole in the roof where i scrapped it along a wall, my fault. DOW.

i've put it up and sat in it for 6 hours in a force 9 with no problems at all. i think they have been tested in a wind tunnel above a force 10.

it is one of those things where you get what you pay for.

Re: beach shelters

it comes with sand/ shingle flaps doesn't it? i'm sure my friends one has them(like a beach buddy). you only need to use guy ropes in anything above a force 7 or 8.

Re: beach shelters

they aren't really that good if your not on shingle or sand. i have used mine on piers, using bags of shingle to put on the flaps. it was far too much effort carrying the shingle, even with a sack barrow, so i use an umbrella now.

if your holding it down with pegs on grass i would advice you take something to rest on the flaps, maybe a couple of legths of metal that you can put in your rod holdal. i say this because the rustling/ scrapping of the flaps on the ground drove me nuts, the grass might not be so bad.

hope this babble helps.

Re: beach shelters

there as good for keeping the bait out of the sun as they are for keeping anglers out of the wind.
