illegal fishing

Hi all ive just been informed that its illegal to catch sea trout because its a migratory fish ?, is this true and if so how do they rule this !.Ive never heard this in my life,anyway all trout were returned alive as is everything i catch! cheers lee.

You need a Salmon and Sea trout licence to catch sea trout (£65)

i think im correct in saying not to catch but to fish for deliberately and to keep them then yes u need a licence!

OK i got some info on it today up to £2000 fine (on the spot) if your caught catching and keeping sea trout, as for catching them how do they know your are targeting trout at a venue that has never produced sea trout before,as far as i know anyway,wont be targeting these anymore,cant afford it ! it would be well worth buying a license if you wanted to catch and eat trout but not for me fish were invented for satan there horrid !! cheers lee.

lol sorry i wasnt correcting you there is a place on the river dart we catch them whilst mullet fishing with bread!

i think deliberately would be if we was using fly's and claiming to be catching mullet...

I wouldnt worry about it ,how can it be proved you where fishing for sea trout??
I m sure the fines are for keeping them.

Aparently mullet are quite happy to take a fly, so you would be OK with that excuse too.....

I asked an Environmental Agency officer at an open day about this, as a novice I do not "target" a species and asked if I caught one what was the consequences. He said just return it, if I was found with one in a keep net or dead in my bag then I could be fined, otherwise an accidental catch was not a crime.

As most people catch and release then it is not an issue, but keeping fish is the problem.

Oh well, I shall just grab my fly rod & do a couple of hours mackerel fishing on the Spey. Just hope there's no nuisance Salmon about......
