| Re: filleting knifes Try to see if "J. Marttiini-finland" are still around. BE careful though, they are SHARP!!!! I inherited one from an uncle. I'm afraid to use it...keepsake and sharp enough to cut a long hair dropped across it!! like these: http://search.ebay.com/j-filet-knife...ageNameZRC0021 ![]() __________________ A bad day fishing is better than a good day working! | Re: filleting knifes Its just like a pygmy will tell you when dealing w/snakes...stay away from the sharp end. You know I'd send you to Cabela's or Bass Pro, but that probably won't do you a lot of good. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...ainCatcat20166 ; http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catal...ILLETEQUIPMENT ;and http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catal...IVESSHARPENERS Its still fun to look. good luck and keep your fingers Nelson __________________ A bad day fishing is better than a good day working! | Re: filleting knifes Hi Baitmaster, May I suggest a Stellar Sabatier 15cm Cooks knife. http://www.cooks-knives.co.uk/x60HRx...batier2018.htm I purchased a Martinni filleting knife last year, and while I must agree that it is a great knife I feel it is not as good or as practical as my sabatier cooks knife. I only use both of these knives for filleting, I have a cheap supermarket utility knife for general use, i.e. baits etc. One other thing that you must have is a knife sharpener. As you are aware, all filleting knives must be kept extremely sharp, the only way to do this is to keep the original angle while sharpening them, this can be done easily with the "Chantry" knife sharpener. http://www.cooks-knives.co.uk/x60HRx...peners2263.htm Although a little expensive it is impossible to go wrong, basically it is two "Steels" set at the proper angle. I will guarantee that you won't get a better sharpener than this, it is idiot proof. I hope this helps, no doubt others will have a different opinion, the choice in the end is yours. | Re: filleting knifes Have used Rapala knives on the boat for years, they are sharp and most importantly very flexible at the blade tip, which is really essential to get in to weedle out little bones.Think they are around £25,and come in a leather sheath to keep them safe. __________________ Mike..
