| Re: daiwa 7ht or abu 6500 Hi Rigchukka, I made the same move myself a month or two ago, and asked pretty much the same question. The basic replies were that the Abu Mag Elite was the best reel of the two, but for a first step up from fixed spool to multiplier, you can't beat the 7HT, as it is very user friendly and needs very little if any attention straight from the box. I made the decision to go for the Daiwa and have got the hang of it almost straight away (first cast I was too ambitious and had the brakes set too loose, resulting in a snap off). Having used it a few times now, I am well pleased with it. I'm sure there were others who replied last time who have used both, so I'm sure they'll have something to say as well. Good luck with whatever one you choose, Darren |

| Re: daiwa 7ht or abu 6500 Hi Steve, Having used the Abu 7000 for uptiding I decided on the Mag Elite for beachcasting. It is an excellent reel, but if you do decide on it, please remember to fit the break blocks as the come in a separate packet. I would suggest that you lubricate the bearings with thick engine oil for the first few casts until you get used to it. The engine oil slows the reel down a little and makes it a little user friendlier. After you have used it for a while you can then clean out the engine oil and re-oil with the reel oil that is supplied. You will now have an excellent little reel that will last you a lifetime if you look after it. Abu reels are the most easy of all the reels to maintain yourself. | Re: daiwa 7ht or abu 6500 Personally id go for the elite as Ive had both reels and found i can cast much further with the elite and the retrieve is far quicker so perfect for fishing over heavy ground or when your fishing a match! also id opt for the blue elite over the green as I'm sure the green one doesn't have a ratchet? if my memory serves me correctly! Don't get me wrong though the 7ht is a fine reel though. Ollie. |

| Re: daiwa 7ht or abu 6500 i don't like the handlres on the 7HT, and found that a power handle put the reel out of balance. however other people do fit the power handles and are very happy. 7HT is a great casting reel and can be used straight out of the box. a good selection of brake blocks for easy tuning. very reliable as long as it isn't used for rough ground or cranking big fish. i use the blue elite (non mag) and love them for close in work and extreme range. not the most reliable of reels though. as for the mags, i brought one and thought it was s**t when i first used it and 2 of the magnets came off after 3 months. it's now lost somewhere and i don't really wanna find it again. out of the 2 it's a close choice, maybe for easy use i would go for the 7HT. |

| Re: daiwa 7ht or abu 6500 Both reels are superb (I presume you're talking about the 7ht Turbo?)... Abu Mag Elite - excellent casting reel (took 4 of the magnets out of mine for optimum casting though not recommended if you're new to them) Daiwa 7ht - great out the box! simple as that (the new Turbo is one of the smoothest reels I've encounted) Also try the Penn 525 mag, fab reels, user friendly, lots of line on a big spool, and a nice handle to wrap your hand around. Very good casting reels too ( I own 6 of these reels - 3 for beach work, 12, 18, 20lb. lines - and 3 for my heavy ground fishing 25, 28, 30lb. lines all with leaders) |

(just give a blast under a tap when i get in, and strip it down and re oil every year) performs and looks and feels as if Rolex made reels! ![]() __________________ SCUPPER A COMMERCIAL TOOOO DAY! |
