Re: daiwa 7ht or abu 6500

I have just had the same daunting choice to make. Really liked the article about the Daiwa 7ht turbo in SeaAngler a few months back and ordered it from a local tackle shop. Then spoke to fishing partner Portland Pirate , and he thought that being a newbie to multiplier casting, I should go for the Abu 6500 sunset.
So changed my order and not looked back!
The Magnet Braking system is so easy to set!!

Would really take advice of others before purchasing!

Re: daiwa 7ht or abu 6500

thanks all for the advice, went for the 6500ct sports mag in the end, filled up with line today and hope to be out tomorrow night getting a taste of some of the birds nest that i keep hearing about although i think it would be a good idea to take spare fixed spool just in case.

wow what a reel, looks good feels good and no doubt when i have the ba**s to slacken off the brakes it will cast good, only problem i did have were snags due to not having a level wind and concentrating to much on loading the line on neatly and not reeling in fast enough but im sure in time i will overcome this problem also had the bonus of christening the reel with a 2lb dogfish so well chuffed, how about you lee did all go well for you on your maiden run

Thumbs up Re: daiwa 7ht or abu 6500

I brought a 6 year old Abu 6500 C3 secondhand recently and it still looks and casts like a new reel. I've also got an old Abu 7000, with pitted end plates/spool, and it still suprises me sometimes how far i can cast with it.Abu reels in one word = quality.

Re: daiwa 7ht or abu 6500

well guys im a little what dissapointed with the sports mag as i have now had it for 2 weeks and i have had to replace the flimsy mag adjustment ring twice due to it breaking away from the internal part and from what i can gather this is going to be a ongoing problem because when i got in touch with the abu parts department whom i couldnt fault for there speedy replacement of parts the guy practicaly admitted that it was a bad design fault hence why he sent me two spare rings so lets see how long these last, bit gutted to say the least as i got the impression that abu's where the bees knees for quality and reliabilty.
has anybody else had this same probem as it would be nice to know how to resolve this
