You know my two favorites.....Cabela's and Bass Pro. they are both decended from exclusively fishing catalogs.
Where is going to be in the States?
see here...

Here are a couple stores that are more 'all encompasing'...

and this one is mostly in the upper mid-west...

I cant' say, I've ever seen a carp mag here.(?) The BIGGIE here is Largemouth Bass!!! Walleye are big in the north w/Pike and Muskie. Crappie is comming into its own, slowly.
Theres just not the interest here in carp, outside a few old southern and black folks. Some fly fish mag.s try to drum up interest occasionaly w/articles like 'Carp...the poor mans bone fish', because they put up a great fight. I guess I can't forget... Bow fishermen, go for them because they are easier targets at the surface.

I've seen more carp, dead on the bank than I've heard of, taken home. These are the same jerks that take EVERYTHING they catch out of the water...Size or limits. What they don't take home, they leave on the bank. I really chapps my @$$ too.

Re: Lucky Me

Look again HOOKED , NY state is bordered by Lakes Ontario on the top, Erie on one side and a bit of the Atlantic on the other. Oswego county, on the Ontario shore does a LOT of advertising. Also sponsors and hosts fishing shows on public tele.

If your going to be in NYC(City) you might check out the phone book yellow pages while your there.

Stay away from Walmart. They are trying to take over the world w/cheap chineese (r@p. If w-m were a soverign nation they would be China's 9th largest trading partner. They've put an awful lot of people out of business. including some tackle makers, who wouldn't move their factories to China. So w-m shows their product to China says "We want this..." end of story-end of company. w-m is fast becoming a dirty word here.

If you've got the time and scratch I would most definitely suggest you charter a trip on one of the great lakes!!! All the fun of sea fishing in fresh water.
Good Luck, enjoy y'self, tight lines and PM me if you even look west toward Nebraska

Re: Lucky Me

I spent a whole day in a Bass Pro (you can't really call it a shop - its more like a Mall), which is just fishing equipment - wall to wall!! This was just north of Chicago. They even had boats, mainly bass boats, - but fully rigged hanging on shelves. Their flyfishing department was very interesting and overall, the prices on kit were mainly 45% less than what we can get at home.
How big is your dad's suitcase?? - even better still, Bazooka cases also cost next to nothing in comparison - stock up on rods??!!!

cheers
