| advice on collecting razor fish. hi there people. can anyone give me any advice/ tips on collecting razors. i've heard that you use salt to get them to surface but is salty water or is just salt best? do you have to use a spade or something to get them out of the sand? i'm planning to get them from reculver in kent, has anyone collected from here before? any idea how many i'll get in about an hour? from what i've heard they're at the low water mark, so as it's gonna be a 0.5 i'm hoping i will be able to get to them. thankyou in advance for any help. ![]() |

| Re: advice on collecting razor fish. I believe that you should pull them out with slow steady pressure, otherwise they break. __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |

| Hi Big Guy;-) I watched an elderly Chinese fella collect razor fish on Abbey Sands last year. Arm yourself with a large container of Saxa salt (other brands are also good) and a pair of welly’s. Next, your best off with a spring ebbing (if there’s such a word) tide. Last hour down and up only. With the sea behind you gently work across the beach in the shallows. The best area is directly behind the tides edge. Look for an indent in the sand, about the size of a ten pence piece and shake a good amount of salt through the shallow water into the hole. Don’t stand waiting; keep adding salt into the other indents that are around. As Charter Skipper has said, within a minute or two up will pop the razor fish. Gently grab the razor fish and as Greenheart has already stated, pull the razor fish out in one continuous, upright, steady movement. Next…….Hunt the Bass. They just loveum!! | Re: advice on collecting razor fish. cheers guys. so you basically walk along the waters edge (at low water) see the holes, sprinkle salt, do this for 10- 20 holes, then go back and ease them out of the sand. that sounds simple. the tide should be a 0.4 and hopefully with the wind pushing it out even further, so it should be low enough. you've helped me out no end. i'll let you know how i get on. cheers again. p.s don't know about the eating, a bass coming out of the surf is far better for me. ![]() |
