Barrage across the Severn Estuary

Well here it is the most bonkers idea i`ve seen in ages, some looney wants to build a barrage from Brean Down to Lavernock point, creating "The Severn Lake". Makes me feel almost sane in comparison.....

Take a look at the link to read the whole story.

Re: Barrage across the Severn Estuary

This scheme is probably doomed to fail even in these times of seeking alternative power, but it is a pity that if these proposals are taken further, many millions of pounds of tax payers money will be wasted on the inevitable consultations and inquiries etc. As has been the case with on shore and off shore wind farms in my neck of the woods. If the proposal was to become reality then many people may lose their jobs or income. That has never stopped progress before, and I doubt it will in this case. On the other hand if this idea were proved to be viable, and produce power at a cheap rate, and meant we were less dependant on foriegn powers for our energy needs, I for one would support it. We are supposed to be conservationists after all.

Might as well mate `cause it will kill the cod fishing up here. We`re talking some of the best cod grounds in the country on its day.
