People fishing in your pocket!

Well it happened to us again a while ago! went fishing for a couple hrs on a long wall, setup , 2 mins later 3 anglers plonked their gear down next to us and noisily started to fish when the whole wall was free!! this happens to us all the time, be it on a wall/beach peir!
I would never fish near other anglers if there is plenty of space elsewhere, If there are not many fish about i would not want to make my chances slimmer by sharing my fishing space with other peoples baits!what do you think is an exceptable distance between anglers? I reckon about 100 ft.I`m not talking about fixed venu comps, just average fishing trips.
I know i dont own any marks, but it comes down to first come first served i think! Gets my goat i tell thee!
What do you guys think?

Talking Re: People fishing in your pocket!

Had a funny experience a few years ago. Whilst on holiday in cornwall, my wife walked out onto the end of Sennen pier at low tide. It was a nice day & there was no one else there, so she decided to sunbathe. She spread out a blanket & lay out just wearing her Bikini & fell asleep. Trouble was it was the local fishing hotspot. When she woke up,the tide was in & there was about 15 anglers fighting for elbow room & guess who was taking up about 90 percent of the best space. Glad I was fishing off the rocks that day.

Re: People fishing in your pocket!

if there's plenty of space then there's no need to set up next to other anglers. piers do tend to get cramped but you have to expect that.

i don't mind people fishing reasonably close to me as long as they don't always cast over me and don't have a bloody radio on. just general consideration imo.

Angry Re: People fishing in your pocket!

I think if u can't get the spot u want then walk on not plonk down next to the man that made the effort to get there first
If they do it to me I just tell them any extra tackle that comes in I'm keeping
It normally seems to work
But if that don't work and they aint good casters i move myself rather than put up with they're crappy fishing lol
Crossed lines is the worst

Re: People fishing in your pocket!

Oh Dear maybe I'm in the wrong here. If I visit a new venue I look for hopefully local anglers who know where to go. Not near enough to cast over but near enough to go and chat to whilst keeping rod tip in sight.
When out on the boat I always change my drift if another boat comes along so they don't pick up my favourite places for free. It's nice that only a few feet can make a huge difference especially if the tides rushing through!!
Tight lines....but not on other lines!!!!

Then there's the other side of the coin. The GPS is saying two miles to go and there's a little blip on the horizon dead ahead. At one mile you are saying "that guys' about where we're heading". Then you are counting down the last few hundred yards and realising that the only boat for five miles in any direction is parked within twenty feet of your 'secret' mark.
(though it has to be said, on the day I have in mind, the numbers came from a friend with local contacts and the guy parked on 'my' spot was almost certainly the original source ).
What can you do? Out with the chart and revert to plan B.

At least a second boat adds to the scent trail, provided they are polite enough not to park too close or downtide. I do object to the ones who drop by just to grab the numbers. We had one ignorant so and so in a Warrior 175 some time back who didn't even bother backing off. Full bore between the two parked boats, not more than 20 yards from either, driving one-handed and working the GPS. We got chucked all over the shop by his wash

Steve

Just weigh the situation mate! If the guys you approach seem a little hostile then maybe back off or move! Alot of anglers go fishing for the peace and quiet and to "de-stress", and just want to be left alone!

Me and my mate fished a busy mark at fort vic last year, we got there early, set up next to each other and sorted our gear. I do remember thinking we were a little to far apart to stop a spot poacher sneeking in between us! how wrong could i have been!....................3! yes....3 anglers started to put their rod rests in between us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Although i am ashamed to admitt it, we gave in and moved ourselvs! THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN i thought to myself! From now on if any "spot poachers" try to budge me out then there will be words!
