Home Made Lures

I am planning on making all of my lures this year due to the cost of them and the high loss rate here on Portland. I am just wondering what is the best paint to use on them?

I have found loads of Humbrol paints on Ebay for Airfix models etc. Are these any good? I am going to make plugs to start with.

Re: Home Made Lures

humbrol acrylics are pretty good paints, once dry they are a lot stronger than the old enamels, but i dont know about in salt water and rocks, but i suppose you could dip them in yacht varnish to seal them good ?

John.

I have only lost 3 rapala's on Portland in the last 2 years. 2 off them have come off whilst casting due to wear on the braid and the other was when a fish took me into the rocks.
Use braid and you can feel every knock and bump. If you combine it with a floating plug you will loose very few plugs.

Re: Home Made Lures

If you try any lead head jigs or lures, POWDER paint is the only way to go!!
Heat them up w/an alcohol burner and dip them in the powder makes a good even color then bake them in an oven and you can hammer on rocks w/o chipping the finish. GREAT!!!
One hint tho, clean out the eyes and any paint you don't want BEFORE they're baked, because after, you'll have a he11 of a time cleaning it off. Its all I use.
