Re: making weights

Where to get lead .... Try your local builder merchants, Travis Perkins etc. But be warned as someone said it's not cheap.. and i still stick by what i said earlier.

Catch ya.........

Re: making weights

Try this,
Its a bit fidly at first but once youv'e cracked it you end up with a free mould of pretty much any lead you want.
You need to buy a tub of firestop ( fire putty used to fill the holes in fire recesses flue boxes) B&Q stock the stuff. Mould it around a lead weight, leave it to set for a couple of days until it is rock hard (in a warm room/cupboard) then cut the whole thing in half with a hack saw or jig saw (fine blade). remove the lead and hey presto chepa lead mould. Takes a bit of practice but does work. Sounds a lot of messing about until you realise that a 4 pirk mould can set you back the best part of £70-£80, ant the putty costs around £5 for a litre.

Re: making weights

For supplies of lead, try your local scrap yard, I do and its a load cheaper than the builders merchants, if you can get pipe it,s cleaner than roofing lead (unless it's painted).

DONT!!!!NEVER NEVER NEVER quench a mold in water....its just not worth the risk to your health and anything flammable within 25' of you!! AND you risk breaking/cracking your molds (esp the old iron ones)!!
