Re: full set up and runnin Hi Jazzy, I'm sorry, but what exactly are you wanting to do? Buy a boat, buy tackle for boat fishing or what?. Regards Drew __________________ All that Glitters is not Gold Secretary of The Blandford Sea Angling Club

| Re: full set up and runnin £650 will buy you a boat, only trouble is it willprobably sink !!....You need to spend considerably more than that .You have to consider your own safety.......Spare engine ,safety equipment, training courses for boat handling,VHF course, the list is endless __________________ Mike.. | Re: full set up and runnin Not being unkind, on that budget you have the choice between a kayak, an estuary-going 12-14 footer and a death trap. The kayak isn't a joke, yak fishing is a rapidly expanding sport but it does have obvious limits. Around the Gower coastline, it'd be a very viable bass-killer. You might find an aging 14 foot displacement or semi-displacement rig with ancient trailer and fair engine at that price. Enough to let you get your feet on the ladder, but odds are it will have a few problems. You have to bear in mind that the sea isn't SAFE. Operate with reliable mechanicals and good safety gear and practises or when a small problem occurs lack of preparation could turn it into a full-blown crisis. There are no second chances, those the RNLI don't reach in time, don't survive. I'm guessing you don't have any small boat experience, apologies if I'm wrong. I'd suggest you get in touch with local boat clubs or track down welsh boat-owning members of this forum and beg, plead and bribe your way onto a couple of boats. Try a charter too and get a feel for how its done in your area and what sort of rig is needed. Horses for courses, you need to know how you intend to fish before you can find a boat that can make it happen. Steve |

Re: full set up and runnin I spent £600 on my boat. Its the one pictured by my username. I considered that to be a bargain. Yes its old (1983) but it was sound and it came with 2 x engines (again 1983) anchor and warp. It had been out of the water for 12 years on someones drive. So I took a chance. All that £600 gave me was the bare bones. Since I bought it, I have spent a further £2000 on DSC radio, fishfinder/depthsounder, GPS etc, engine service, tackle, lights, safety equipment, radio licence and trailer service.........Boating, unfortunately, is not a cheap hobby if you want to stay safe. My guess is that if you buy a boat that cheap, then you have to be prepared to spend on it. __________________ Andy. ------------------- Treat each day as your last, one day you`ll be right.

Re: full set up and runnin I was looking into getting just a sports inflatable for using in sheltered bays with the family and possibly some close in bass or mackie fishing and new with and engine I was looking around £3000 that's barnd new, no trailer, no safety kit / radio etc. even a second hand engine on it's own (25hp) would have taken a large chunk of your budget. Personally, I wouldn't even think about getting my own small boat unless I'd been out a lot on other small fishing boats and got used to the handling etc. As Charter Skipper says ideally you'd need to go on sailing courses and radio courses and they would probably use most of that budget.

Re: full set up and runnin I paid 1000 for a secondhand engine. My advice is to get together some friends you trust and pool your money together and buy something decent. good hunting.
