Garcia Mitchell 624...whats it worth

Hi guys,

I know this sounds a funny situation but b4 I put this on that selling site I was just wondering how much this reel was worth.

It was given to me many years ago and its never been used by myself, its been in the fishing room for years in a box. I occasionally get it out and give it a quick wipe over and admire the condition but thats about it. Technology has taken over so these reels never see the light of day anymore.
Is it possible to tell the manufacture date with the serial number you can see in the pic.
I do know what I would be happy to accept but something tells me it might be worth a bit more as a show piece.
Have a look and see what you think, ps sorry about the finger marks, these come off real easy with a cloth, its just the fact I was holding it to take the pics.

There is a very small amount of discolouration on the bottom as you can see but its no big deal for a real of this age....what ever that may be.

Re: Garcia Mitchell 624...whats it worth

nice reel mate,i had two of the 620's ,-proper birds nest machines if i remember rightly.
the 624 was the wide spooled version wasn't it ?,i think i used one with a metal spool for boat fishing.back in the good old days.

showing my age now

Thumbs up Re: Garcia Mitchell 624...whats it worth

Hi Pixybasher, these reels were probably the most popular boat reel throughout the 1970s - 1980s which tells a story in itself. Consequently there are still loads of second hand ones about. Not sure about serial numbers & dates etc, but I believe the earlier ones were made by Garcia & marketed as the 624 Captain. Later ones were sold under the Garcia Mitchell name & the Captain part was dropped. Valuewise if you look on ebay there are plenty for sale varying between about £5 - £30. An unused mint one may fetch more if it comes complete with it's box & instructions etc. Personally I think they were a simple quality bombproof reel that can still hold it's own with the modern stuff, if not as high tech. I would be tempted to keep it as a spare boat reel. Been thinking of getting another one myself for that reason.

Keep it mate, they don't fetch much money. If your desperate for £15-£20, chuck it on Flea bay, someone might buy it.

Re: Garcia Mitchell 624...whats it worth

Hi Matey,

If you choose to sell it, offer it first to your chum's on this forum. I might be interested at the right price - original box, instructions(?), mint condition.

PS - Cracking rifles, I own a 'Daystate Electronic MK3', a great piece of kit, would not part with 'her' for the world. Accuracy is amazing (worked hard at it though, nothing comes easy!). 'I love her', the walnut stock is smoother than my 'Mrs bottom' - no a lot better than that, 'as smooth as silk' and far more balanced and proportioned. Ooops, better stop now!!!!......

Regards
Bass-Tard (Paul)

Re: Garcia Mitchell 624...whats it worth

I would put it on EBay, you might get far more for it then you expect, with all the trigger happy finger bidders. I got £60 for an old ABU 7000, it wasn't worth anywhere near that money, my reserve price was only £15 but people get carried away on there, just one bid, then another, eventually someone ends up paying over the tops just to win the bidding.
