Thumbs up Sea Fishing members day

Sea Fishing members day – Shore Fishing

The day started at 5am got in my car and I was off

Got down to Chesil beach at about 8am, Andyg was already fishing for mackerel so we would have fresh bait for the day – Unfortunately he was fishing the only peg that the mackerel would not venture on to (strange as even 4 year olds were catching on the next peg)

The bait

Downsouth had collected some great rag, lug, squid, frozen sand eels and peeler crab

The rigs

We all generally fished two up paternoster rigs

The match – 9am – 7.30 pm (down tide and back up)

Well it all started of very well, Downsouth was straight into a lovely flounder and everyone was getting some positive knocks – then the tide turned and it all went very quiet

Carlton got the next fish – a small gurnard and me with a small eel and then nothing for the rest of the match

The main reason for the poor fishing was that crabs were stripping our baits, within minutes of being in the water

Even though we had a poor days fishing (along with the rest of the fishermen on Chesil beach) the company was great with beer and barbeques and we even sacrificed burnt offerings to the gods to try and improve ours fishing chances

Portland Jon good lady even started giving names to the crabs that were being caught

Being a novice on beach fishing I learnt loads from the guys

Downsouth won the trophy with Carlton in second place

Overview

Great to meet up with all the guys again, and what a great way of spending a sunny Saturday. I have the reddest face in the UK and people are stopping and staring at me and giving me sun cream

Look forward to the next shore fishing members day - Big thanks to Downsouth for organizing the day

Re: Sea Fishing members day

Great day guys. Even if the fish were AWOL, at least it was a day with a decent bunch of guys. Carlton "The Pliers" did the trick. Nice one mate, I know where to come when I need quick access to somewhere It made life a lot easier for the return trip. Andy packed up when I went back over to get the rest of my gear.

Portland next I reckon for some deep spinning. Jon can show us the business. And I'll have a bit of that Bristol Channel jaunt if we get it off the ground.

Thanks again lads.
