Re: new rod n reel

Sounds good mate!

so you would recomend the greys rod then?

like i say i have never owned or even thought of buying one so just a quick couple of questions for ya.........

what sort of price would i be expected to pay for the set up you have there?

or maybe what sort of price for just that rod?

anyone else got any coments on greys rods that could swing the lead to me buying one or not buying one?

Re: new rod n reel

Hello Guys,
I consider myself an out and out Greys man. I own three Greys rods (one of them being a fly rod). For the rough stuff i love to use my Apollo m2 14' stiff as a poker and strong as an Ox, nothing too flash about it very much a belt and braces bit of kit but very dependable, coupled up with a Penn mag 525T brilliant. Not an out an out casting rod it's heavy build is for hauling out the big stuff from kelp covered rocks. For a beach or clean ground i use the Greys Mercury,( my absolute favourite at the moment) the rod can be cast up or down the butt and is a very very powerful rod, not too stiff as not to bend but when fully loaded it will send a 6 oz lead with big baits one hell of a distance. Bite detection for such a powerful rod is extremely good, the rod is user friendly but i think it would suit an angler who has some experience in casting, i would'nt recommend this rod for a novice.
The price of the Apollo, £199.00
The price of the Mercury £245.00 (do they still make them?)
Hope this has been some help.

Re: new rod n reel

A friend of mine purchased a Greys SRX, a couple of years ago, nice looking rod too. We were fishing a local beach in the middle of winter, catching codling, and, he just landed a good fish of around 9lbs, and wouldn't stop commenting on how well the rod handled the fish, next cast, he snapped the top twelve or so inches of the rod!! honestly, it was like a gun being fired, BANG!!!

As you can imagine, his praise of the rod suddenly turned a little sour!
