Never Mind Boat Fishing Magazines.....

...there should be a magazine dedicated totally to sea match fishing!

Seriously..! A full mag on pegged events around the country, who's doing what, winning what, and catching what, to win matches!

I know match fishing isn't everyones cup of tea, but, I know lads who don't match fish, mates of mine in fact, and, if we have a pleasure all nighter, after cod in the winter from the beach, they always, and I mean always, want a fiver a man for the heaviest cod to be landed!...

Now that tells me there's a matchmen in ALL anglers!!!...

Now, don't tell me that there's not just a LITTLE competitiveness, in even the most modest of sea anglers...coz I for one don't believe it.

...on that note, when I go for a practice sesh, or just a plain pleasure session,,I always pick out the nearest guy to me on the beach, and, 'compete' against him, fish for fish, without him knowing, he lands a fish, I need a double hit! and so on, until I'm either so far ahead, or he goes home, honestly, I just go into "match mode", 10 minutes a chuck, fresh baits every time, different rigs, altering cast lengths, plain leads, grips, light lines, heavy lines, hook sizes, (when I match fish, I usually use size 4 kamasan match hooks, depending on fish being caught, but i'll up them if say, decent cod are on the prowl, and when I say up them, i mean to size 1 kamasan match!),
always 3 hook clipped, flapping, 3-up, 2-up 1-down, sliders etc...and small baits, always small baits, small fish can chomp away on large baits and never find the hook point!, Small baits, hook up every time, guarenteed!!!

sorry guys, I just go on and on and on, when fishing is the topic...

Re: Never Mind Boat Fishing Magazines.....

Thanks ever so much for that reply mate, thats a cool reply mate...

I never ever call anyone names about their angling abilities, to me , angling is just one big learning curve mate, I like to think I know quite a bit about me game, but, hey, matey, I'm still learning new stuff all the time, I agree, some anglers, I wouldn't say better, but are more competent than others, and I like to think that anyone can aproach me and ask for advice, without feeling inferiour, or feel somewhat, scared, if thats the right word to use?

I love sharing info with others ( unless I'm in a match, when I'm in "match mode", when I try to focus on myself, and nothing else matters, but my tackle, bait, rigs,,,,and catching as many fish as I can!!!)

My eldest lad hasn't been in the best of health of late, and hope everything should be ok for the weekend, don't think my family will be coming on Saturday, as it is an 8hr drive, and think that would be unfair to them for me to go fishing!! but, hey, we'll see...

Thanks for that reply matey, appreciate that..

cheers

Re: Never Mind Boat Fishing Magazines.....

hope your lad gets well soon
i have tryed making afew bets with my mate when we go fishing but he catches even less than me and never seems to pay up of "forgets" about the bet
more fishing mags would be good, they seem to have mags for just about everything else but i dont surpose there is all that much demind for them, well there is but poeple who really want them would mail order them
having said that some of the mags you see must barely sell any, like shooting mags for example, every shop you go into will have shooting mags

Re: Never Mind Boat Fishing Magazines.....

Hey Paul, sorry to hear about your wee boy.

Just wanted to vouch for Carlton, HE CERTAINLY ISN'T SHY!!!!!! lol

I can't wait for the weekend, I'm gonna pay some serious attention to your rigs man!!! I've taken the day off so me my other half and our wee boy are going down Friday morning, staying in a BnB Friday & Saturday night. Gonna fish Friday night for a few hours and then hit the beach 6-7ish on Saturday morning, see if I can catch us some maccy for brecky - If I can catch them I'll bbq em for when everyone arrives, if not then there's a cafe at the car park.

So, fishing all day Saturday and hopefully some of the night, a few beers, bbq and bonfire on the beach, I'm sure there will be a few takers........

See you all soon :)

Re: Never Mind Boat Fishing Magazines.....

hi Paul, hope your lad gets well soon! well you.ve uncovered a niche in the market that needs to be filled, perhaps Jim Whippy would be interested in doing the same thing for match anglers as he did for us boaties. The "big two"
just keep troting out the same stuff week on week and if youv'e got a years issues you might as well just save them and cancel your order. the other option is for match anglers to produce their own mag, I.S.AC. Produce small hand books for this area and a monthly results journal for members so maybe that could be expanded on. or even have your own web site.or one within Richards set up, with someone else doing the admin.
