Not Quite a pointless day on the "Grey Side"

well yeaterday I took my big pass out and went fishing
first off went to localish river that was nice too me for several species in the summer
The river Culm at Killerton
arrived 9.30 am it was cold but bright a lovely morning so I thought Game On
well i found the water level was low , also the water was Ginn clear

so I tried trotting with maggot for a bit at this swim

then found a deeper swim on a bend

so tried for pike as well but as could see the deadbait in water from 40+feet away realised was bit pointless
so left after having had a nice morning but No fish

got home to slightly frosty missus (but she had said i could go!!)

So undeterred at 7pm in evening I picked up Baggierich and took him over Torquay way to introduce him to the delights of Oddicombe
where we quickly set up and I managed to crack off first cast
but did get fishng quickly
managed too reel in cracked off rig when drew in next cast and found a v small whiting on it POINTS but at that time welly and kiwi appeared so didnt take photo as thought would get loads more
so carried on and managed to snag and loose that rig again and again re found it with a whiting on(even smaller so no photo again) this was just embarising

well the evening after that was slow too say the least ,those were the only two fish caught up untill midnight
when we called it quits
but when reeled in left hand rod I found a slightly better whiting this time he was mine for the hunt
quick photo for points and returned

nothing for the other 3 but was a great night and good too meet up again after so long
then the drive back and lucky missus asleep so job done
and not quite a pointless day but close

dave

Once again Dave nice to meet up again and fish with you, Rich and Kev.

I really think that the slight NE wind messed things up. Still what was the alternative.....Family Stars in Their Eyes......Yeah right!!

Kiwi.

Nice report & pics Pingu. Interesting technique for the Whiting. Can,t find any info on the Crackoff technique in the reference books though. Is it some new method that you have invented?

Re: Not Quite a pointless day on the "Grey Side"

Ah yes. The delights of Oddicombe. Land of the perpetual returing rig. Honestly Dave, if you want to get rid of you old rigs, chucking them into the sea is obviously NOT the way to do it.

Fantastic night, only slightly tarnished by the lack of fish, but hey, I'm used to that by now! Great to meet you guys, and fish a new beach for the first time. Can't wait to try it in the summer for dem der Bass.

Oh and Kiwi, it seems that Celeb BB has now become a fixture in my house.... Run mate, grab the tackle and bloody run for the beaches I tell ya...

Re: Not Quite a pointless day on the "Grey Side"

Good report Dave Must get out tonight and get some points myself.

To Rob M is your avatar a Lambretta LD, three speed job, I used to have one of them, the most unreliable scooter ever. Sold it to a bloke who chucked it in the canal in the end, sad.
