Re: Ball Weights

this is gonna sound like a stupid question but surely having the lure/lead go down faster will make more tangles? i remember on my 1st wreck trip i was letting them down to quick and for the 1st 4-5 drifts i was in a tangle and couldnt work out why till you told me to slow down n up my line BS
surely getting to the bottom faster will mean you need stronger hook lengths which could possible scare the fish there for making the whole exercise pointless?
just been thinking about it

Re: Ball Weights

Yes, It wouldn't come up yesterday, look here
http://www.do-itmolds.com/locator/st...?state=England
good luck & tight lines
And Ben, Why would a line tangle if you let it out fast or slow...as long as you kept good tension on the line?
I could see a birds nest happening when you finally hit bottom and weren't paying close enough attention (I've Never done that! ). But I've never been in really deep water either.

Re: Ball Weights

Hi, (Ben)

Your first wreck trip, the lure spins on a fast drop unless there's a strong tide flow, not ideal for wrecking, light bs traces tend to twist and help trace to ensnare the main line and as you now know slower drop, stronger trace.

My idea of using ball weights is, its sphere so shouldn't offer as much drag in
the tide as the weights we are using.

Do It claim they drop faster and straighter than anyother weight, so with that in mind we should be able to go wrecking on bigger tides (theory only)
without the tangles.

As I've just spent £140 on three moulds and loops, hope they work.

Re: Ball Weights

Hi Folks,

I've been using round weights for a number of years now (6 - 8 - 10ozs). I bought them in Christchurch four or five years ago and have been using them ever since. Unfortunately I used the last one this year, so if you have any ready John, please put me on your list.

They are excellent for wrecking. When I first used them aboard "Blackjack" Steve George, the skipper, laughed at me and said that they were useless - he uses nothing else now!!!

Cheers

Drew

Re: Ball Weights

J.M. WOW 140BP($250) !! Did you get Do-its? My fav and easiest to find. They are only about $30(17BP) ea. here, $40(23BP) is costy. Next time buy my plane tic and I'll bring'em to you.

Pingu. Watch lead style, I think I know what those are....a flat ring w/spikes on both sides? I'm afraid I'm no help there.
But, if its just a flat disc see here http://www.doitmolds.com/products/si...nd_flat_sinker but they only go to 2oz.
also see these http://www.doitmolds.com/products/si...y=river_sinker
Or maybe this might be more functionaly similar http://www.hiltsmolds.com/ClawSinkerMolds.htm I've never ordered from Hilts directly...
Good luck, I hope this helps.
