Recommend a decent economical beach rod?

I want to buy a decent but economically priced beach casting rod: preferably one which casts well and will be forgiving: my style is not great. I am used to a multiplier so would like a rod which accepts one. Can anyone recommend one?

Re: Recommend a decent economical beach rod?

Thanks Dave and Gully.

Local beaches are shingle with some rock; I visit Scarborough and the west country most years and although most of my fishing is not heavy duty I would like an allround rod.

I could spend up to a hundred but would prefer to spend about £60 if there is a decent rod to be had at the price. My concern is that the dearest rod is not necessarily the best and that although in general you get what you pay for, it is not always true.

Re: Recommend a decent economical beach rod?

Hi Joe.

In that price bracket there are quite a few good rods from most of the big name manufacturers. I personaly use Zziplex rods for most of my beach fishing. Recently I borrowed my freinds Shimano Nexave 130M. I was amazed at how great a rod it was. He bought it for £80. I was able to put out a 3 hook rig as far with the Shimano as I was with my Zziplex's. Bite detection was excellent and the finish to the rod was fantastic. Far better than I have seen with some makes of rods.

Talking Re: Recommend a decent economical beach rod?

If you go to a local tackle shop they might have some decent rods in that have been part x'd for an up grade.Just ask the guy and you might be surprised. There was a decent one where i go for £110,greys,but I got it.Hope that helps.
Also you could try the local free ads paper, get something like an Abu Conlon,or a Daiwa.
