Question Storing Bait

I have just returned from a very unsuccessful few hours on sheerness beach fishing with rag for the first time. I still have a couple of score of rag left and would like to know the best way of storing them. I hope someone can help this novice out.

Re: Storing Bait

how long do you wanna store them m8?

if it's just for a couple of days you can get away with leaving them in the sea peat. i prefer to dampen it down a little if it's a bit dry, but not too much sea water or it will give you a soggy mess.

any longer than 2 days and you'll need to tray them. pick the rag out ofthe peat put in a cat litter tray, add just enough water so the worms are half covered. if you put too much water in they will die. change the water for fresh every day and pick out any dead/ split ones and any peat thats in the tray. they should keep like this for at least a week.

Re: Storing Bait

it would be best to store them in a fridge aswell if poss ,but do not
freeze them as this will also kill them, make sure it is sea water not tap water.

cheers for adding the fridge bit, it's pretty essential for long term storage.

just hide them behind the butter and cheese and the missus will never know. lol.

Re: Storing Bait

did they taste nice cod head? rag and chips with a dollop of tar tar sauce sound pretty tasty to me. pmsl.

the trouble with storing worms outside is that the tempreture is never constant, which kills them quicker.
