Advice on Abu or Diawa

Having got a sandstorm rod last year to see how my shore fishing went I have decided to go the next step and get another rod that will help my casting and overall fishing. I decided to give the fixed spool rod a miss last time but since then Ive been using my cheap rod more because I can cast further with fixed spools after all.

What I would like advice on is - do I go for the next rod up from the sandstorm at about 150 quid as Ive heard they are good or do I look for an abu rod around the 100 quid mark ? I like both brands and have both diawa and abu gear although this week my new boat gear has been abu - I am swaying towards them with their reputation !!

Any advice would be great.

Also looking to buy my old man a waterproof jacket that is lighter than a flotation suit - the Greys Apollo zip jacket looks great - anyone else got one of these ?

have a look at the diawa supercast at 140 pounds a nice rod that you will be able to bend

Ben - when you say a long rod I assume you are talking about the rod well over 12ft ? Im not a complicated fisherman and spend my summer time on the boat so just after a rod that will improve my casting a bit - which is a general swing and thump overhead !!

Have heard that the Diawa Supercast is good and a notch up on the sandstorms - at 140 quid its not too expensive really - just wandered if anyone thought Abu were comparible with Diawa for good shore based fishing rather than their boat gear.

from what i have heard a long rod like a shakespear K2 will improve your casting masivly with just a simple overhead thump

I think the Daiwa Supercast will do the trick for you.

Its not so much the rod but the technique used that sends your bait out into the blue yonder. I know a bloke in my club who can cast 290 yards plus on the tournament field, but struggles to catch fish as he generally casts over the top of them in the Bristol Channel. So long as you can cast 110 yards plus consistently you will find the fish.

Generally the fish are no more than 60-70 yards from you in the channel although there are a few places you may need to cast 150 yards to find them . And on some venue they are closer to shore than that....just ask Richard Forum Admin

i would personally go for the daiwa, not a great fan of abu rods. why not look at second hand rods of that price, you'll get a far better rod fro your money. what sort of weight are you chucking? if it's usually 5oz or less i recon a tip tornado lite would be spot on aqnd you can get em second hand for £100 -£150

as for the jacket i've got the jacket ( the grey and blue one?) and the fleece. the fleece is amazing (best i've ever worn) and the jacket does everythging it should do. the jacket is a bit expensive imo but it's light and the zips won't leek. don't go too big on the jacket size, they're bigger than you expect.

zippy,caentry,conoflex or higher priced daiwas r the way to go stay away from abu rods
