I agree with the last post, try and forget big distances and go for a good fishing tool with good bite indication. My fishing buddy is a good tournament caster and i beat him in nearly every match this and last season, he can out cast me by about 40 yards.
I have only ever chanced ABU beach rods once and it smashed in half on the first cast with a 5oz lead - it was rated above that and it was only an overhead cast off rocks.

Probably a one off fault, but i won't buy another.
daiwa, zziplex, century, conoflex, greys are the way to go - there is a guy on E bay doing Greys Appollo 2 at £99 brand new at the mo.
