Members Day - update

Hi,

The location is going to be Abbotsbury.

Meeting up time will be between 9:00 & 9:30 outside the cafe located in the car park.

I think we will set up somewhere to the left of the wooden walkway that leads onto Chesil Beach. Hopefully this will only be a few yards to the left but we want to get a section of beach where we can all be together and snuff out the foil flingers and sunbathers.

If you are later than 9:30 arriving, don't worry, as I think it will be obvious who we are. Look for proper fishing gear, listen for a Glaswegian or Geordie accent or pop along to the Boat Fishing forum and look for the picture of the smug looking guy holding the Smoothound in the Boat Trip thread, that's Richard (blue sweatshirt).

As already mentioned, bring along food for the BBQ, we will be dishing out disposable ones. There is food available in the cafe, but it tends to just be sarnies and crisps etc.

There is an info document in this section with maps, accommodation and bait supply details. There are Smoothound showing at the moment so Hermits might be one of the baits you will want to bring along.

If anyone has any others questions, please either reply here or drop me an email at: seafish@mrdp.com

So far we have 11 people committed so I look forward to meeting up with those who I already know and some new faces. Here's to an excellent day

Re: Members Day - update

Carlton/Richard,

The best bait in the area is from Weymouth Angling. Their phone number is in the info document. I would definitely order it this weekend as it's very busy at the moment. You don't need to order the frozen stuff (black lug, squid or hermit). You should be able to get fresh mackie from the shore during the day time.

I personally would go for rag, fresh lug and some live peelers and then frozen hermit if you want to try for the Smoothounds and frozen squid.

Carlton, yes this is where the rod and tripod went for a swim, but about a half mile further on from where we will be. Though I think the sharks don't care too much for staying in one place My rod took a massive knock around the same time as this guys rod went into the sea and I wonder if it was the shark cruising along the beach that picked up my line on it's fin. I have never seen that rod bend over so much. My bait and rig all came back untouched but I thought I was into something decent for a few seconds. Not sure I could have landed it on 12lb line though...

Re: Members Day - update

I reckon that Porbeagle is still hanging around from when Andy and I was there a couple of weeks ago. Looks like it will be mackie fishing for us then. Maybe we need to have a competition for the most unusual way to catch them.

Hopefully with a stronger wind and bigger tide on Saturday it will help the fishing. Thanks for the info.

Re: Members Day - update

I didn't mate, but they'll miss out on 200 yds of beach that we'll have from the morning

I don't anticipate them getting there until 4 or 5pm. It will be a pegged event no doubt, so they won't get their places until then. The reason I said for us to setup left of the walkway is that if there was a match most of matchmen tend to head off to the right about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile from the beach entrance.
