Long rods Hi all Im just wondering if anyone has any experience of using the continental style " long rods " i.e. 13-14-15ft . I have heared they help to improve casting distances, but I was concerned about casting weights etc and how they stood up in rough conditions? I still use a Diawa that is about 10 years old and its built like a telegraph pole so I dont have any probs with it apart from lifting it off the ground ![]() __________________ Haunts the Norfolk/Suffolk coast looking for a bite

Re: Long rods I used to use a 20ft flost rod on the rivers, this was course fishing, but it did give you better control over your tackle, dont know how theyd bear up in the sea though __________________ Both sensing and reason come into play with our conception of the world-Kant

Re: Long rods I started fishing two years ago with a twelve foot cheap beach caster that I could only cast say 75m I broke the end off trapping it in a car door so looked into a new rod, read an artical in a mag and bought a cheap Shakespear 3 piece 14 footer. My casting distances improved no end especially if a 200g weight was used, but it is a fat beast at the reel seat, so wanting to fish two rods I bought a continental style one from Askari. This is much more flexible and thinner, and if I get the cast right with this rod the rig goes miles. I like the feel of the thinner longer rods, and being a tight sod can use existing fixed spool reels on them. I am used to 14 foot rods now, but dont know much about the better shorter rods, and I don't even try to pendulum or helicopter cast. Just give it some welly over your head or off the ground and the bait goes miles and stays intact as well. The continental type rods are quite sensitive as well giving good bite detection. I am looking to get another as I'm on my second Askari one and the rings are starting to come apart. The blank is great but the components are poor. I will probably re-ring it and put a better reel seat on it myself. You get what you pays for I suppose. As you can probably tell I am a fan. __________________ The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom. There is no such idea that cannot be improved by the imput of other people.

| Re: Long rods Hello all I am a big fan of the long rods,at present I fish with the 16 footer greys triplex, and also a century CME.The CME is 15 feet long, and I prefere this in heavy seas,or rough ground work. Its casting ability is fantastic both otg,and pendulum style, but as a match rod I find it hard to spot bites. On the casting field---Unbeatable is my opinion. The 16' triplex is a different story, what a rod!very long, slim, and light.Asimple off the ground cast easily puts 2 worm baits and 5oz of lead over 150 yards, and on a field over 200 yards.Bite detection is great, and would reccomend one to anyone.I am 6' 3" tall so it makes it easy for me,but I know some guys under 5' 8" and use it very well also. | Re: Long rods Another big thing with Greys rods,You get a lifetime warranty with them,so any breakage,ie tips, blank rings, and they replace it. |

Re: Long rods the soft, long, continental rods are designed for greater distances when otg casted. the 16 ft + tornament rods are meant for a slow tournament pendulem style. i saw the welsh number 2 on a field with a 20ft custom century. all i can say is wow. wierd style, but oh my god that lead flew. i would say you need to try one first.
