Re: new reel A reel is only new for 1 cast, and I have found the first cast to be a let down. It's what's on the insides that counts.

Re: new reel Another Mag reel that Abu manufacture which some of you might not have heard of is the Ambassadeur 6600 C5 MAG-X. This is probably more of a baitcaster reel than a full blown beachcaster like the Mag Elite but appears to be an excellent reel. I picked one up a couple of weeks ago but haven't had a chance to try it out as yet. It's probably feels a little big for my spinning rod (for which I use a 5600HPSS) but I think will be perfect for my 12' bass rod. I believe Abu originally made them for the US market but for no particular reason they didn't catch on over there and Abu withdrew them from sale although you can still pick them up at a few places here in the UK. I got mine from Spotty Dog and at the time it was the last they had in stock but they are still displaying it on their site. I'm not sure that the reel is still in manufacture - it may be that Abu are simply selling off the remainder stock through a few outlets. The 6600 C5 MAG-X reel has magnetic cast control (same as on the Mag Elite), 5 stainlesss steel ball bearings which make the reel feel incredibly smooth, starwheel drag, titanium nitrate line guide, thumb bar, press thumb spool release, 5.3:1 gear ratio and the same line capacity as any other Abu 6000 series reel. As they appear to only be available in the level wind version they're not going to be to everyone's taste but that aside it appears to be a cracking reel. PS Creedy's right the green Mag Elite does not have a clicker, nor does the 6600 C5 MAG-X - what looks like the clicker on/off switch is actually the mag settings control.

Re: new reel i'm not really a great fan of the mag elites my self. i brought one years ago and it was s*it. i didn't find that the mags done as much as i wanted, didn't adjust with as much accurasy as i would have liked (during the cast). i am gonna give one another go though, maybe the reel was iffy. i'll only use when needing extreme distance though. do you really need the mags? if not the blue elite, 7ht, slosh 20, penn 525, etc are far more reliable reels, which is what you want at the end off the day. just my opinion though.

Re: new reel i agree about the penn 525 but only the super mag the other r poop, and as for the slosh and 7ht u cant even put them on the same level as a mag elite lets be serious here, the mag elite is by far the best looking user friendly reel on the market with the exception of the 525 super mag which is redicoulsly overpriced

If i really want distance then the sports mag is the reel but the beach is a great leveller when it comes to casting. I did lose a couple of bits out of my mag though and its a bit on the quick side now ![]() __________________ Come on you HULL! |
