ROD TIP - LIGHTS (For Nite Fishing)

Hi,

I have fished the last two weekends at night to see anglers using bright lights on the tips of their rods.

They have been blue and yellow versions, they seem to be in pairs and I would imagine of an LED nature.

Does any one know the equipment I am trying to describe??.... And if so do you know any brands, or suppliers.

These look better than the clip on bells I have dangling from my rod .

Thanks for all replies

John

Re: ROD TIP - LIGHTS (For Nite Fishing)

Most tackle shops sell them but you need to whip and lacquer the mount onto the rod tip. One word of advice, most of these things require 2 x LR4 batteries and tackle shops will sell them for up to £1.99 per pair. We bought 100 from ebay for £12 inc p&p.

BTW the blue ones show up the best, red is second best.

Re: ROD TIP - LIGHTS (For Nite Fishing)

I don't understand why somebody would necesarily want to put light on their rod. Form what I understood wild fish don't like light. I did have a pet fish (Siamese Fighting Fish) that had been conditioned to retrieve food when I turned the tank on to his cage, but again he was domesticated.

Re: ROD TIP - LIGHTS (For Nite Fishing)

aku,
lights used are just so as you can see the rod top when night fishing for bite detection.

pheonix,
i tend to use disposeable chemical lights , cheap as chips plus just tape them on.

i think there's more info here;- Rod Tip Light – Seeing your rod tip at night

Re: ROD TIP - LIGHTS (For Nite Fishing)

i've not night fished for many years (partly cause i work nights) but a good friend of mine does regular... a good tip he suggested was as well as a lighted tip he also paints tip-ex on the end of his rod (only a few inches) it aids in seeing his rod at night

Re: ROD TIP - LIGHTS (For Nite Fishing)

I dont use tip lights i use reflective tape off life jackets, cut it into 5mm strips and then wrap the last 3ft of the rod in it.
It reflects the smallest amount of light and does away with line and wind catching lights.

Re: ROD TIP - LIGHTS (For Nite Fishing)

Cheers Guys,

You all have given me some helpful TIPS!!!.... sorry just had to slip that one in

An angler on Deal Pier the Friday before last suggested to me painting the end of the rod white to aid bite detection....

That seems a shame as my rod is over 40years old.... but white tape or similar may be the way forward as that is reversible.

Keep the Replies coming I am open to all ideals

regards
John

Re: ROD TIP - LIGHTS (For Nite Fishing)

we use the blue led battery type for night fishing , must say they are great, only cost about £4.50 with 4 batteries, and i put it on the rod tip with a couple of small cable ties, so can take off in the day.

Re: ROD TIP - LIGHTS (For Nite Fishing)

For a cheap and quick way is use starlight and use small tie wraps to secure them on to youre rod tip making sure the bulky part is not facing the line side

Then just clip it flush ( no painting no fuss ) if your only going to fish a few times at night plus the tie wrap secures it super solid

Just a thought over a sunday beer

Re: ROD TIP - LIGHTS (For Nite Fishing)

i've tried lights but there's always a risk of the line catching. i've been using reflective tape from the tonys tackle range for years now and would lever go back to a light now.

the tape reflects from the street lamps on the pier or if you look at it with a half decent headlamp on the dark beach it comes straight back at you.

painting tips white spoils the looks and doesn't do anytyhing like the same job.
