Tackle Shop

Well im hoping some of you could help me. I am hoping to start a tackle shop in teignmouth which sells both tackle and bait. I was just wondering what sort of tackle, ie brands etc people would like to see in a local tackle shop?

i have an incline of what i want but i need to know what fellow anglers would want to buy.

any help would be much appreciated, many thanks luke

Re: Tackle Shop

i guess it depends on how big the shop is gonna be, and if you are targeting serious anglers or weekend fishermen
i would say get in on the action with fladen for the weekend fishermen, they work and are cheap
more seriouse fishermen i would say au, penn, diawa and some rig bits makes like mustad hooks, gemini
froozen bait has got to be ammo and some good quality fresh stuff, avoiding farmed stuff
just my thoughts, have the same dream
best of luck to you mate, really hope it goes well for you

Re: Tackle Shop

Well good luck first

I think if you get a great rep for your bait then you will sell most things

Do not get carried away as reps will try and sell you everything you do not need and if you can get sale or return on items

Hit a few trade shows and ask many questions

Re: Tackle Shop

Well best of luck to you.
If i were you i would stock a lot of cheepish gear as 90% of anglers are pleasure anglers who fish once every second weekend and dont want to pay loads for there gear.
Having said that though cheep doesnt have to meen crap, you wont make much on the bait but hopefully they buy some tackle when getting there bait,i really wouldnt know were to start so good luck to you again.

Re: Tackle Shop

Get a great reputation for your bait, and for good friendly service and tackle sales will follow. Richards hit the nail on the head, try and get as much stock on sail or return as possible.

Re: Tackle Shop

Thanks for the advice, it is much appreciated. The bait side of the shop will be covered as it will be a backed by wrigglers baits who supply frozen baits all over the country.

I have always wanted to have a tackle shop, never thought it would happen as i have choosen different career routes to go down. so fingers crossed everything will go smoothly

Re: Tackle Shop

The very best of luck.

I would say from my experience of my local shop, they tend to run out of bait too often and I have had to go to another shop who has had stock. I have now stated to dig more of my own bait because I can get what I need when I need it. I want to support my local shop but if they do not have what i want then they will loose me and my custom plus me buying all the other bits we all need.

So I would say have great bait in excellent condition, I for one will travel to get top bait.

Hi Ben.

Interesting that you say avoid the farmed stuff.
I own a tackle shop and I can tell you that without a doubt the farmed worm from Dragon Baits is the best there is bar none. The main adantage is that I can order as much or as little as I need. It is couriered to arrive at 9am on the dot. The worms are very healthy and of a great size. They have no damage from having been dug so they stay fesh longer. All my customers agree that I have better worms than any of the other local tackle shops and to show that I am not being biased I will say that they do get better peeler crabs than I do.

I have seen farmed baits from another bait company that I wont mention by name, and they are not as good and they normally come pre-boxed. The best I would say about them is they would be OK if you were desperate.
