Beach rod

I have a 16" calypso surf rod 15-50 pound class, a 12' abu garcia 10-30 pound class, and a 9' 10-20 pound class rod. Will these be of any use on the beaches/piers/boats in England. I know the 16' and 12' will probably be too large on a boat.

Re: Beach rod

I use my freshwater kit for saltwater fishing. It's strong enough though I know that I risk damagaing or destroying it every time I go out. My Zebco reel is rated for 15 pounds and one of the recommended uses is costal fishing. It is a model 404 (the newest one). Really reliable. If England is anything like America, I would say thatshould do the trick as long as you dont cach any monsters.

Re: Beach rod

You've a pretty varied range of habitats and species available, so there's bound to be somewhere that any of those would adapt to. The only oddity is the extra long surf rod, more common in SA or european coasts than the UK. Where in the UK do you expect to end up?

Re: Beach rod

12' is pretty much the standard length for a beach rod over here and I use mine for fishing from piers etc.. We are starting to see more long rods over here as people are realising their effectiveness from fishing in Europe where long rods with fixed spool reels are the norm but I haven't seen one 16' long myself. The 9' rod would probably be good for fishing from rocks or other areas where a rod rest cannot be easily used and you have to hold the rod and could be used on a boat possibly although boat rods are usually somewhere between 6' and 7' 6" I think (don't boat fish myself). We tend to have beach rods rated by casting weight rather than a weight class like you have mentioned but they would seem suitable for use in clean or rough ground.
