I've got reel cleaning and fixing to do to. I think I'll put it off some more, but It really does need to be don. Maybe this weekend.

Re: Penn 525 Mag Service

Hi Folks,

I can't understand you guys, you all must have money to burn.

Why pay around £100 for a reel and not maintain it? All it takes is a flush out with warm water and put in the airing cupboard after each outing, and a strip down every other month to make sure that there is no corrosion. Why wait until the reel ceases in the middle of a fishing session?

Cheers

Drew

Re: Penn 525 Mag Service

Hi guys,

Servicing a mag is quite simple, really. Just clean off any grit that may have got in, and clean out / re-lube the bearings (All 6 of them - and yes, there are 6!).

Only bit of advice is to take care when removing the right side plate - the eccentric spring has a habit of heading for the stratosphere!

Any q's - give me a call - 0141 814 6565.

I don't pay 100 quid for any kit. More like (equiv of) 5 quid and I'm lazy. Have a whole long list of projects to do.

Oh maybe I did not do a full service then must have a look at the diagram and see what I missed

Good point about being careful when stripping a reel . I always do mine on a tray and on the kitchen table free of junk . Also I have about 6 bowls to put my screws and bits in as I go . There is nothing worse than seeing a 2mm screw roll off the table on to the old shag pile

Shame there is not a indepth step by step with loads of piccys on servicing a Penn 525 Mag > I Know blackbeard has done one but no piccys .
