Crab Bait

I've never used crab as a bait because it seems rather 'unavailable'. But everything I read tells me that it's a top bait. So, other than getting up at 4am and then driving for a couple of hours to get to the sea, is there another way for an urban sea angler to get his hands on fresh crab bait?

Re: Crab Bait

Yep, go down to Tesco mate and get the those longish white and red things. I think they are called crab sticks.... Bugger to hook though, always seem to break apart, even with elastic.

Re: Crab Bait

Andy, most of the tackle shops in the locations you fish will have crab. Expect to pay between 70p and £1 each, depending on local availability.

Re: Crab Bait

You generally get 2 baits out of a crab though Ben. I cut mine in half and use the legs as tippets on the hook. I find bait elastic is essential. £1 is the upper end. I purchased 10 the other evening for £8.
