insurance

Hi Guys & Gals, I.ve just read an article about shore fisherpeople and insurance basically it say's that if you are not insured and you injure someone else when your casting out you could be sued for thousands of ££s
in this day and age of injury claims it must be a point to think about. the easy way to get over it is to join the N.F.S.A. as a personal member or join a club that has insurance. as you will then automaticaly be insured under their umbrella insurance. I would say the best bet is to join the N.F.S.A. as a personal member.

The other thing is. is your tackle insured on your house contents insurance????

Re: insurance

Ben,

If you are swinging the weight mate, it is YOUR responsibility NOT to hit someone. The beaches, piers and jetties around our coast line are public places and not the preseve of anglers. The UK is following the lead of the USA and is becoming litigation crazy and as Gus rightly points out a 5oz weight whacking into the side of someones head at 150 mph would more than likely kill them, so certainly expect to be sued. Worse still, I would suspect it would be a criminal offence if you were to be found using sub-standard/wrong equipment i.e. no suitable shock leader. Imagine damaging a £250,000 boat in a marina with a wayward cast, the repair bill would be huge and it would be your very pi**ed off parents footing the bill.

To join the NFSA costs you £17 per annum, that's about 5p per day and the benefits you receive are far in excess of that sum. The organisation is fighting on behalf of all sea anglers to maintain our fishing grounds, fishing industry and our pastime. Without them the government and ignorant 'do gooders' would walk roughshod over our sport.

I would urge everyone to join.

Re: insurance

This sounds like a pro-N.F.S.A. lobby (lol).
If you join a fishing club, they should be covered by insurance-being in Wales most of the clubs are affiliated to the W.F.S.A.and their insurance premiums have gone sky high in the last couple of years, but this is included in the membership fees.
I'm not sure if this covers the members only in match fishing time.
It's certainly worth getting insurance as fishing can be a dangerous sport, for participants and the general public alike-after all they have as much right to be on public land as everyone else.:)

It does a bit. Sorry for banging on, but it comes hot on the heels of a project I have just finished that was highlighting the decline in our fishing industry and coastal communities.

Re: insurance

It's O.K.,I have the greatest respect for the N.F.S.A.I have known David Rowe for many years, and even his predecessor. Our fishing club used to be affiliated to them, but they didn't have an active Welsh section-as much as we tried to get one going. So the club decided that the W.F.S.A. would probably look after the interests of Welsh members, and they were more accessible.:)
