any ideas?

Hi folks, me and my 8yr. old son have just got back from collecting mussels at the low water mark for using later as bait and while turning over rocks we also found 1 small eel and a number of fish/eel like things that I can't identify, they are 4/5 in. long flat in shape like ling with a tiny fin running along entire back and a larger fin running along the last 1/2 - 1/3 of underside with a very small roundish tail also largish black spots high on back running all the way from head to tail, anyone know what we've got and can we use them for bait?
