Re: sea reels

I've also got an Abu 5000 multi. This has all the features of the bigger reel, just a smaller version. Can't get so much line on it but it will easily take enough for light/medium beach fishing and mine cost me £30, again brand new off ebay. I think you should match the reel to the rod you have, some beachcasters are ringed for multipliers and some for fixed spool, but quite what the difference is I'm not sure. Hope this helps.

Re: sea reels

rings for beach casters. the ring at the bottom of the rod is larger for fixed spool reels so that the line runs out more freely when you cast and normally they can be folded flat along the rod.. reels always but the best you can afford, more importantly look after them, don't just put them in the shed after a session wash them with fresh water and dry them off and oil?grease as per makers instructions then they will last a bit longer and save you money.

Re: sea reels

More rings on a rod setup for a multiplier too I think.

Gus is bang on with the advice for washing under running cold fresh water. I even wash my rods and rigs down when I get home, in fact I wash everything down. Salt water is so corrosive.

Re: sea reels

Never washed my 7ht properly since i have had it!! lol

Just give it a spray with wd40 once a mnth! Still runs well and casts further than my elite! wouldnt recomend not cleaning a brand new reel though! i got my 7ht second hand and wernt that fussed and 3yrs down the line i never thought it would still be going strong!

Re: sea reels

i made the mistake of putting a semi-defrosted bag of baby squid (a big bag as well) not properly sealed in the top of my water proff bag once
all my reels were in the bottom of the bag and i didnt manage to get all the squid liquide out befor it started going off and i had to take 1 of my reels apart to wash it all off properly cause it stank of moldy squid
it wouldnt have been a prob if it wasnt a water proff bag cause it just made a pool in the bottom
not smart
