Visit from the Sea Fisheries Distric Committee

We had a visit in the shop this morning from the Southern Sea Fishery officer.
He just popped in to give us some size charts to hand out.

It was good to see them and to see them doing something useful.
I asked him if he thought it would be a good idea to put signs up with a picture of a Bass and there size limits. He replied that wherever they have tried that, the scum that know they are taking illegal fish just rip the signs down and claim ignorance.

He also said that at the weekend they boarded 15 private fishing boats. Not a single one of them even had a Bass on board. It has been one of the worst years on record for boats out of Weymouth. He put it down to the coldest water temperature in February for over 20 years. It dropped to 5 degrees of Portland. This is seems has kept the sprats away. It may also mean that we could get a late run of Bass.

Re: Visit from the Sea Fisheries Distric Committee

We had the fisheries down teignmouth today also, they were asking the people fishing if they knew what they were doing, sizes etc. believe it or not 1 out of 5 didnt know about undersize fish or where they could or could not fish.

I think they are on about putting signs up and sending leaflets down to the eel hut to give people. if only people knew im sure the majority would listen

Hi Portland Pirate, Nice to meet you the other day.
We caught a couple of 41 cm bass on mackerel strips a couple of nights after our meeting.
